Yeah my house is roughly 30 minutes from the bottom of Tennessee side. Its pretty accessible for me so I go every month or 2. I normally dont do 28, just occassionally. It tempts you to go way too fast for public roads and I have a hard time avoiding the temptation. Typically down foothills parkway and up and a down the dragon then home is about what I do. About a 2 hour drive if I go alone.
I drove it in my 993 on my trip home. Fun road. Loved that 28 too. Fortunately it was clean when I drove it and not another car either direction. Do you live near there? Lucky if you do.

Yeah if I bought wheels and tires and paid for the minor repair out of pocket and didnt turn into insurance it wouldnt show. If I could grab 2 used identical wheels and tires and fix it for 3k I would just do this. However, for 8k plus turning into insurance is probably best bet. I will forget about the carfax crap in a month, but just choosing focus my frustration on them instead of myself for now LOL. Crappy day, but I honestly have taken it in good stride. It could have been way worse. Could have lost control of car and then who knows what. This sort of stuff can happen when you play hard.

So sorry to hear this.
I am replacing my GTS centerlock wheels next week with Forgeline FU3Cs. I had been thinking about holding on to them for possible winter wheels but I am not sure if I want to go through the trouble of swapping them out twice a year. Feel free to PM me.

You know, I would always say no way I wont buy insurance on anything but health, home, auto and business insurance. Pay so much already not going to buy it. In hind sight though... In past 2 years I have bent a BC Forged wheel on a previous car that cost $1500 on a pothole and now this. So, maybe just maybe I could have been wrong.....

The collection of data by Carfax is a mystery. I'm aware of scenarios were the damage sustained by two cars was roughly equivalent. One was reported in Carfax, the other wasn't. I believe that if a police report is filed, there's a virtual certainty that the accident will be reported to Carfax. I suppose that not all repair shops or Insurance companies make their data available to Carfax.
People blame insurance companies for CarFax, but the truth is very little info on CarFax comes from insurance companies. The bulk of what insurance companies report are total losses, and thefts. A lot of insurance companies aren't even contracted with CarFax. The biggest source of info is from state DMV's, which is why you so often see strange or inaccurate descriptions of damage on the reports.

^^^ This. I had a Toyota truck that was rear-ended and did close to 4K of damage. Was never reported to CarFax even though the at-fault party's insurance handled the repair (at an authorized Toyota shop)

Sorry about the incident, but I would also add my fond memories of the Dragon. For my 40th birthday, my wife sent me and my motorcycle there for a weekend of riding the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. It was a great trip!
