buy used 991 or wait for summer?
New to this forum and shopping for 997.2 vs. 991 Porsche at the moment. Do you guys think its worth waiting for new 2020 model to come out? Do you think with updates the used cars may decrease in cost or should I just buy now if I have already decided to purchase one?
Thank you!

I doubt the 992 will affect 997 or 991 prices until they start showing up in large numbers and more trade-ins are made. That won't happen until after the summer. Assuming you are looking at 991s close to 997 prices there won't be much effect. Each series has its own attraction. Get the one that sings for you. Your best bet is always to be going with the best car you can find.

As I just posted in a different thread, my dealer said that when the 992 was released he sold out of his 991.2 allocations since many liked it better. If you find a 991 you like at a price you are comfortable with you should buy it.

If you know a 911 is what you want, I'd buy as soon as you find the right model/specific car. I would drive multiple examples of 997s and 991 so you can tell what you want. In fact that's what I did. I realized pretty quickly that the 991 was the one for me.

The best time to buy is Dec- March those are the slowest time for car sales since Dec/Jan are just after the new year where noone buys and this time of the year people are usually busy with taxes etc.
Once April/May comes around....price starts to climb.
I highly doubt the 992 will affect the prices on the 997s since people will not dump the 997s for the 992s
and the same with 991s to the 992s. I've learn that P-cars esp the 911s are very diff with other vehicles in terms of resale value etc.

Agree with others. I’d start looking right now. It’s hard enough to find a used car that checks all of your boxes with options, colors, price, condition, etc. Start now and you may find yourself buying in the Summer anyway.

I agree with the comments above. Start looking now. If you want a car that's a color other than black, silver or gray, then your search may take longer than you think. If there are other specific options that interest you, then it may take even longer. My first 911 purchase was a 996 C4S. It was Midnight Blue Metallic with Natural Brown Leather interior. It took me almost a year to find one that I wanted.

I have a different slant as some here. I own a 991.1 3.4L and did own a 997.2 3.4L (same engine). Porsche slightly tweaked the wheelbase on the 991 by adding a little more wheel base and more to the front contact patch separation (they did it again with the 992.1). It rides better on twisty roads. The also improved the PDK on the 991 (nicer shifts).
Nonetheless, the two models have the last of the Carrera 3.4L engines that are not turbo. The 991.2 has the same 3.0L small-turbo engine as the 992.1.
I agree prices will increase this summer so now is good.
BTW, my Agate Grey car is a 2014 that is now 5 1/2 years old. I've had nothing done except oil, filters, and a set of tires. MSRP was $103K, and the $2K Bose stereo sucks. I'd buy the 991.1 Carrera S (3.8L) if I was looking (fairly priced). The 991.2 just got a little bigger turbo.
I saw a 2015 Porsche 991.1 Carrera S FS yesterday at my dealer (Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned Program). It has an extra two-year warranty (15.5K miles and perfect condition). The ask was $69K.
Good luck.

The last post is exactly why you have to go out and drive some, check out options, etc. For example, many of us find the Bose perfectly fine, and there are some that find the base stereo ok as well. I will agree that a 991 is the better choice but I believe the 991.2 is better: you can search this forum to find out why someone thinks one is better than the other so I will leave it there. I drove a lot before I decided what to buy and then I read pages and pages of this forum to learn as much as I could before I ordered. Have fun while you are searching but asking what to get in this or any other forum will probably not give you the answer alone.

Which car do you want? You don't have to answer but my advice is to drive a bunch and then get the one that you love. You're going to forget all about the money you spent on the purchase if you buy the right car. If you think that method is expensive wait until you see what it costs if you buy the wrong car.

That seems REALLY low for a 2015 991.1S do you know what the MSRP?

Do not rush, take your time, it took me almost a year, drove several from '07-18 to finally decide what I wanted.
For a price point comparison I found a '15 C4 20K miles CPO well appointed MT ($110 Sticker) for $73K last week.
GL, take your time....half the fun is in the search!
