Default Help! Weird bumpy texture on lower side of brand new GTS

Hi folks,

I was washing the new GTS the other day and I noticed a strange texture to the lower section of the side of the car (both sides). I've attached a photo which I hope is clear. The paintwork on the car seems generally good, but this lower section has a rough texture to it, and the very bottom seems really rough. I only noticed it because I was up close to it while washing. Is this normal?

Nice visual though!

Not sure if that's some sort of caulk or sealant where the black plastic side skirt meets??? The labeled "WTF"

That is odd. The skirt is mounted with screws underneath.

My car '17 4S is the same. Both rocker panels look like they were painted by an amateur. At first I thought it was an undisclosed respray (bought new) but apparently it is just another no cost Porsche option.

It is the one part of the car that's supposed to be bumpy.

Yup, mine as well. Not crazy bumpy but enough to give my PPF guy fits when installing over the painted side skirts.

I'm pretty sure Porsche has found a fix for the uniqueness of that "bumpy" rocker panel. Most of the newer ones I've been seeing on the showroom floor now seem to have matching orange peel on the rest of the car.

I'm not even joking. There was a GTS Cab right near my service guys desk when I was in there a few weeks ago, and I told him if I had ordered that car special, I wouldn't accept it with that paint job. Every model in there had atrocious orange peel at least somewhere on the car.

I just read this and immediately went to the garage to see if mine were the same, which they are albeit very slight, and I have the factory painted side sills and the paint on those is perfect. By the way, there is zero orange peel on my paint, anywhere, and coming from a C7 I know what orange peel is.

I would expect the side sills/skirts to cover Peely-McPeel-Face somewhat, perhaps save for the upper part. I plan a trip to the dealer to get a "horse's mouth" answer, assuming we can trust what dealers tell us

It’s funny to see this on a newer Porsche. I remember rocker panels like this on older cars. Most new cars have smooth surfaces now. Don’t worry, it’s normal.
