Default Carrera T paint meter readings

Im really not familiar with 991 cars, mostly 997 cars but in my search I came across a 2k mile Carrera T.
The dealer sent a video of the xar being paint metered and I was expecting a nice even 4.5-5.0.

This car shows 8’s on the doors. 7’s in other areas.
4.5 and 5 as expected on the rear. My gut says walk away, but before I do - are 991.2’s coming with thicker paint?

I don't know if they are coming with thicker paint, but they are certainly coming with thicker orange peel.

Did you ask if the car has ppf on those panels or if it has been repainted ? The mil thickness of 7 to 8 isn't anything to worry about at all. Does the color match ?

really? everything I have read and been taught says when one panel meters 4-5 and you have other panels metering 8 - thats an issue. “look for consistency and 4-5.5 for original paint on 911s”

And yes - there is not PPF - it would meter 11 if there was. The dealer claim NO paint work, yet the car with 2500 miles is not CPOd.

I have full PPF on Xpel Ultimate plus. Here is the door reading I just took. The PPF is 8.5mils and I have Ceramic coating as well.

The PPF is that thick!? I can’t believe how thin the paint, with clear coat is on these cars. I’m shocked.

I bought the meter before delivery and checked the car all over before signing for it. All measurements were symmetrical.

Readings that are that far off suggest something isn’t right (e.g. fixed/respray). As posted already, the readings should be pretty uniform.

Are you saying that your paint was 3 mils all around when new?

Paint readings on my brand new Carrera were not consistent, particularly on the doors and hood. My retailer uses a high end meter with the gel and he said it’s dead accurate. He also told me that he sees inconsistency on new Porsche paint all the time.

Do you have measurements as a baseline?

It seems to me if spending $120,000 or more on a new car one would want consistency in readings because when you want to sell - be that in one year, 5 years, 10 years, or even 6 months - a knowledgeable buyer (or any dealer you trade with) is going to meter the car. Think of it this way - a dealer is telling you - and this dealer is telling me they are ok with their cars being sold with high and inconsistent meter readings but we know they will quickly knock 25% on value of a trade for the same high readings.

I dont know what to make of it, but I have seen good original paint cars meter consistently and at 3.5-5.5

6.5, 7’s, 8’s - something seems off

i know cars can be damaged during shipping - so the respray of a door or roof is not accident related - but resale is going to take a huge hit, especially if there is no explanation for the mystery paint work.

Maybe in 2018 / 2019 factory paint gained 3 mills??? Buy only randomly on some areas of the car. Come on...
