Default Taxes or Import Duty from Germany to US?

I would like to buy a set of PCCBs brakes from a seller in Germany but am wondering if I will have to pay any import tax or duty - does anyone have experience or tips for doing so?

It's usually hit or miss when buying things. I have purchased several items from Europe and most of the time they get here with no duties added. FedEx seems to be more stringent, so the two times I have had things delivered FedEx I have had a pretty big duty added.

Totally unpredictable. Sometimes you will be charged duty, other times not.If it is charged, brake parts are supposed to be charged a 2.5% duty.

Check into the suspension uprights and/or ducts, etc. as well as the master cylinder. I've heard there may be some differences which could make the conversion more difficult than simply bolting on calipers and rotors. I hope I am wrong, but worth knowing going in…

A couple of us have been looking into what parts are needed for a while now as several dealers gave several required parts lists; however, nothing you mentioned is applicable...just some bolts, heat shields, brake booster, etc.

Anyway, back on topic. The seller will ship using DHL and he told me is not aware of any taxes, fees, etc. albeit he usually sells to Euro folks and not US so it will be up to me to find out, or take the chance. I am getting a real good deal so a couple points or so will not matter.

I have never gotten anything DHL, but when I have gotten parts from overseas (UK), I get an invoice from fedex which is 2.5% duty and a processing fee.

I've received exhausts and carbon fiber parts through DHL. I paid duty before delivery. It is not prohibitive cost wise.

Do you recall the percentage? Did you buy from a retailer or private seller?
