Even though it's over 25 years ago, I still vividly remember driving through the White Mountains in New Hampshire on some interstate that was virtually empty of cars, winding between the snow-capped peaks, with Pat Metheny's "As Fall's Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls" playing, along with the rest of that album. Was one of those inexplicably euphoric moments in life that just sort of happen. A confluence of amorphously connected events, perhaps.
When my kids were young, during long road trips in the family Suburban, we played, among a lot of other stuff, pretty much every Peter Gabriel song ever made, lots of DMB, and Pink Floyd. Tamed the savage beasts quite well. They would zone out to and/or sing along with the music and never grow impatient. They all grew up into avid music lovers with eclectic tastes. So we did that right, at least.
Anyway, here are some relative recent additions to my Spotify "good ****" playlist. I find them almost meditative and mood enhancing while driving. Very conducive to hyper-focused high speed driving.
"Midnight" by Coldplay from Ghost Stories [electronic pop]
"Psychic Gibbon" by Younger Brother from The Last Days of Gravity [trance]
"Bimoya" by Joe Zawinul, The Zawinul Syndicate from World Tour [jazz/fusion]
"The Dreaming Tree" by Dave Matthews Band from Before These Crowded Streets [rock]
"Unfolding" by Etherwood, Laurelle Robichaud from Etherword [ambient dub]
"Last Known Position - Extended Version" by Ryan Teague from Last Known Position [trance]
"Niton (The Reason) - Original Mix" by Eric Prydz from Niton (The Reason) [house]
"The Roots Of Coincidence" by Pat Metheny Group from Imaginary Day [jazz/fusion]
"San Jacinto" by Peter Gabriel from Peter Gabriel (aka Security) [rock]
Be careful with the Niton song. Can induce one to reach moderately high triple digit mph speeds. Don't ask me how I know.
