Default Changing Tires

I've had my first ever P-car for a little over a year now with roughly 10K miles, a few AX events and I've done some pretty good damage to my OE tires. I can now pretty easily break lose my back end if I goose it in an easy turn, so I think it is time to make a change. I plan on getting Michelin's but I am wondering where folks go to get their tires changed? I asked some fellow P-car owners at a cars and coffee and they said they just go to the local Discount Tire. I am concerned that they will do significant damage to my rims as they are focused on high volume and not quality. Looking for feedback for what other do; am I over thinking this? Do I just mother hen the guys changing the tires and be THAT guy?

If other people are recommending it then its not something that is high risk. On the other end you have the dealer but a good indie with the proper equipment is a good relationship to have.

I take both my Audi A7 and 991 C4S to discount tire with no issues on either...All boils down to personal choice. Any place can damage your rims. Just look at your wheels prior and after to ensure their ok if that's an issue for you..

I asked the same question on another thread and get the same response, some said they get it replaced at Costco without any issue. I guess just be clear up front with the store and take some before pic as backup.

I've had my 911 tires changed at Discount Tire and Costco without any issues. My Costco tires took "forever" to get in but showed up eventually.

For my current centerlocks, I only go to the dealer.

I use the dealer every time as I don't want the risk of anything happening and if it does happen I want it to be the dealer doing it, not the discount tire guy.

My dealer price matches TireRack for the rubber and charges me about $50 more than the discount guy to mount a couple of tires. That's my insurance premium that I'm happy to pay.

I've also had good luck with Costco. Although they don't have Road Force balancer. For what that's worth.

Find a shop that has the Hunter Revolution Tire Changer, all automated, no touch procedure, with minimal chance of any damage occurring.

goto a tuner shop that specializes in aftermarket wheels/low profile tires. if you see they have a high end tire machine like a hunter or corghi, you'll be fine. if you see a coats metal clamp type machine or similar, I would stay away. if you live in sd, goto tag motorsports.

I got winters installed at dealer and summers done by shop that I bought my HREs from. Know them both well so they are accountable if there is an issue. While many have had good luck at Costco there is no way I'm going there. There was a thread here a year ago about damaged wheels at Costco. Not worth it IMO.

I just got a set of Michelin 4S on my car. They did an excellent job. I was talking to the guy and they have state of the art equipment. The tires arrived in 3 or 4 days once I ordered them online. They are running a special now as well for $70 off.

I have take my cars to costco, discount tires, they wont change the tires. They say they will damage my rims. Ask if they can do it, if they say yes, no issues, if they say no, take the rims to a luxury auto store. The guy told me the cheap tire removal tools clamp steel against your rim. If it slips it will scratch. The nicer shops clamps are rubber. Its grabbing the inside of the rim. surface friction.

I'm surprised others have had success with discount shops. I have been turned away couple times, so now I just go to a luxury car shop now.

Keith - which shop did you go to? Laguna Beach is just up the road and I am in OC at least once a week.

Thanks Mike (and everyone else) for the feedback; much appreciated. I have heard multiple recommendations for Tag and will check them out. Will also see what my local P dealer can do. I need to try to develop a relationship there anyway so if the uptick is fairly minimal, it might be worth it.
