there is nothing wrong with the car, nothing near that area would've or could've caused the burn. Exhaust is shield away from that....So it was deemed a road hazard. Probably somthing on the road that got kicked up and sucked into the intake opening (the ones on the bottom of the airbox) and started it all. So I might as well and go pickup a lotto ticket tonight to try my chances again LOL!

i looked at the price of the airbox cover which runs about $150 plus a few of the screen shields for $22 each. Not too bad
Good news, $$ out of your pocket and hassle aside.

I remember seeing similar damage in a pic of a 987 (don't remember the cause), and recall Porsche said the 986 didn't get the Boxster show car's cool low-mounted side intakes due to the too-high risk of burning cigarette butts getting sucked in. I guess it really was/is a real risk, and one more reason why a freeway shouldn't be used as an ashtray…

I hated how many cigarette butts along with leaves got sucked into the front bumper until I installed screens ..... wondering if a smaller screen is needed on top of the intake.

Would be an easy addition.

Your middle heat shield appears to be missing. It fits between air box and exhaust, it looks like this:

Leaves, fall on car when parked, sucked in on engine start and later ignited at high temp.

Thanks for posting about the fire extinguisher. Just ordered two! I ordered the fire extinguisher with my 911 but it was too big and bothered my wife so I took it out. This will be great!
