Default 991.2 C2 showing little boost

My new 991.2 C2 is showing little boost on the boost gauge, in the multifunction display, in normal driving. Is this normal?

God bless,
TT

Yes. You have to really get on it to show high boost levels in that display. There have been a few discussions about this. Assuming you’re past break-in, get your car fully warmed up and take to redline and you should see what you expect to see.

The ECU gives you less boost when its cold (and it was cold today). I believe the car has different boost tables based on temps. You will probably not see max boost in the winter on any modern turbocharged car.

If you drive around in daily driving you will never see boost. You have to really push the pedal. It responds to hard fast pushes to the floor.......if you gradually do it you won't see it.

Its also much easier to get high boost in higher gears. However this is lugging the engine and gets the turbos hot as they work harder. But easier to test out. Put it in sport or sport + in 5th or 6th gear on the highway and give it fast throttle. You should see it go to at least 9 or 10 psi even in the cold.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I guess that means what we experience most of the time is, pretty much, a normally aspirated 3 liter motor. I'm impressed with it! It feels and sounds sweet, just driving around town.

God bless,
TT

Tom,
I had exactly the same question with my new C2

Thanks for checking on this!

Trying going uphill in 6th (7th, if you have it) then then push on the accelerator. You'll get all kinds of boost numbers on the display.
Or in 6th/7th on flat ground and push will give you boost numbers.

Im noticing less boost in winter with my c4s and leaning towards this statement. Anyone know if Porsche has documentation on this?

I believe that the 991.2, and most modern cars, limit peak power not by measuring boost, but by measuring, or calculating, the amount of airflow per cylinder cycle. Since cold air is denser, a given cylinder charge is achieved with less boost pressure in the winter.

I'm still in the run-in stage, 28 days, 400 miles to go.

I'm seeing what you're seeing, TT, the boost gauge doesn't move much, but the car does! Shifting at 4k +/- with a couple of runs at 5 and 6, there's serious push available.

We'll see, when it's run-in plus oil/filter change at 1.8K miles, what the boost gauge does.
