Default Buying a 991 for my hubby

Hey y'all,

I posted here awhile ago about the merits of buying a GT4 vs a 911. Well, my husband solved that problem: he surprised me with a yellow GT4 with bucket seats! So yeah, I am now "that" woman who looks like she borrowed her husband's car without his permission! I'll tell you what: I learned heel-toe in college, but mastering it in stilettos is quite the challenge! She is one hot piece of ***. And yes, I have been racing her in AutoX!

I want to return the favor to him. I think a 991 GTS with an aggressive look would suit him well. What about the new turbocharged 911? Better? He loves my car, but if we go with another Porsche, it has to have 4 seats (we have kiddos).

I am trying to keep this one under $100k. I know I shouldn't buy such an expensive "gift" without having him test drive a car, but please help me narrow it down! He had a keen interest in a 2015 GTS at Porsche North Houston last summer. I think it was white, with a wing. It looked like a 911 version of my car somewhat. Then he decided it was "too much to spend", but a week later, I came home to find "my" new GT4 in the driveway!

Nice car! For under 100k you're limited to a 2015 GTS which is not a bad buy at all.

I wish someone would gift me a 991 GTS.. Sheesh!

Welcome! He may have been looking at a 911 GT3, which you can Google and look at the Images. You have a difficult task ahead of you, but a fun one. I know my wife could never buy me a car as I am too picky but if you know your hubby, which I assume you do as you are asking, you need to give us more info. But $100k will not buy the GT3 that he probably wants.

Hi! Can I not get one of the newer turbo 911 models at $100,000? I don't mean the super expensive blinged out turbo, but the newer version of the 991? One of our friends is the retired CEO of a boot and shoe manufacturer, and he had a turbo. He said it was way too much car and sold it for a Porsche SUV before he went to jail.

The short answer is yes: you can find 2017/18 991.2s in the <$105k range. New ones, probably not, but used, yes.

Your husband might want a 991.1 with its glorious classic sports car experience (e.g lots of exhaust noise and all the power high in the rev range) or the modern experience (muted, somewhat artificial noise, and power spread out over the rev band.)

Which experience you think you husband would prefer points you to high-spec 991.1s or low-spec 991.2s.

Good luck.

I certainly cannot speak for your husband but in my opinion half of the fun is looking and researching a new (or particularly pre owned) car before purchase. In the case of pre-owned one must be patient and wait for the right one. What if you buy and wrap a Porsche souvenir and inside have a note that says something to the effect that he has your blessing to look for and purchase a 911? And if you want to contribute $100k then give him a coupon for $100k off

Then he can start the fun task of hunting down the exact car he wants in the agreed upon price range.

Honestly, get him to test drive and choose.

Honestly, I really don't think hubby will be disappointed in any Porsche you gift him. For $100K you are looking at used. I think you will be able to find a used 911 GTS for $100K.

Congrats to you on your Porsche. I positive hubby will love whatever you get him. Happy hunting.

I love a great surprise, but this is the best answer.

If you can go a little higher on price you will find a 991.1 GTS easily. From what he bought you it looks as though he likes bright colors and wings. A GT3 might be a better choice for him given that you both enjoy the track experience. Given that, I have tracked my GTS and can tell you it is more than capable at the track and is also a fantastic daily driver. Enjoy your search!

What a nice gesture. I would suggest talking to the sales manager at your local Porsche dealer, telling him you are down to spend $100k on the 911 of your husband's choice as a gift, select a likely candidate from the inventory and see if they will give you an overnight test drive or have a runner bring the car over to your home. Surprise your husband with the keys in the morning, and then let him know the car is not purchased yet, and he can pick whatever he likes. The fact that he bought you a new GT4 will probably encourage them to play along.

Try looking at the HFS in the stickies... lots of good info in the thread and will give you some car ideas with 'approved' hot for sale pricing

The new 3.0 turbo charged engine are amazing and has a lot of potential. The 991.2 cars also includes Apple car play. North Houston has a T and a S in white. They are worth a look.

Then have North Houston install a GIAC tune and this car will be much faster than the 991.1 GTS.

Good luck.

This not meant as a debate as to superiority.... but for 100K you can get a GTS 991.1.... Does your hubby like the GT4 engine? If he likes a high revving NA experience then get a 2012.5 to 2016. One the other hand, it may be fun to have a garage with the NA GT4 and a 991.2 with turbos. Understanding if your husband has a preference here is key. I'd divorce my wife if she brought me home a 991.2 and not a 991.1...
