With the exception of a few, mainly Russian migrants, most of us here in the UK, business or professionals, have incomes and/or wealth less than two thirds of that of our counterparts in the US. And that's before being taxed to the hilt when we earn it and then again when we spend it. Oh, and fuel is 2.5 times the price for a gallon, presumably why we now buy it in litres.
Not all of us have five car garages lol! . And while fuel economy might not have been my first consideration, I do appreciate the great fuel economy that the 911 gets. (My wife drives a 2018 Yukon XL Denali that gets about 16 mph on average - which is CONSIDERABLY better than the 12.5 mpg average that our precious 2007 Yukon XL Denali had with mostly highway driving.). Sorry about your fuel prices (I lived in Germany/Belgium for six years - crazy high fuel prices compared to the States).

For the OP...for me it would come down to whether or not you need a rear seat. Space wouldn’t be a problem for me but having multiple cars would limit how much I would be able to drive them.

OK worf928, sorry boss. But conversations do cross and move from topic sometimes in everyday life. Just thought the cousins might be interested in a UK perspective and info on pricing differentials. I'll try to be good in future, please don't bar me if you're admin or a moderator.

I always enjoy reading posts about the UK perspective! Love our British cousins!

Oh, I wouldn’t mind at all ‘getting into’ the P&C side of this and getting some inside-the-Empire perspective.

It’s just that threads from the tech forums usually get uncivil fast and go to the abyss very quickly thereafter when they stray into politics.

Taxes, population density, weath distribution, government regulations and, of course ‘petrol’ prices are not favorable for car collectors/hoarders in most parts of the world. The US may be unique in that households within the top 3% have the means - if not a uniform desire - to accumulate collections. Whereas, due to the previous factors, one mostly needs to be in the top 0.1% elsewhere.

I think we'd need to start post-Churchill.

Ok...just to keep the record straight, although I think it is irrelevant to the original post, I don’t have a five car garage...I have a three car garage with two lifts. ( yes, I claim First World poverty , LOL).

I do have a British car tucked in there. A TR6, specifically. Given the dependability of British cars, it was God’s Will, that the Brits have limited parking and storage spaces. Obviously a wise decision on His/Her part. So now this gender neutral thread is both about politics and religion.

... you don’t store it on the top shelf over other cars.

Right?

As far as I know, no thread has ever been abyssed for beating up on British cars or relaying Lucas jokes.

You should hear what we say about your cars. I had a TR6 long ago. It literally broke in half and dropped in the middlebetween the axles at a stop light. A friend had a Lotus Elan same timish. It's wiring harness caught fire one day and burnt the car out in his drive. But they sure had character!

So we now stick with German cars. Although the wife has an Indian car. Jaguar Landrover was British once I believe but much better now.

That is one of my gripes. No matter how I stack the cars, the Triumph ALWAYS has to be on the bottom. I’ve thought of putting on a full court press to stop leaks but every internet thread I read declares the problem unsolvable and inevitable. On the other hand, It’s your classic slow car that is fun to drive and sounds heavenly. Ok, so I am scared to go over 50 mph,but it pumps the adrenaline just cruising and sucking gas fumes.

Hmm...snapping in half at a light sounds appealling since it will free up garage space. I’ve been waiting for my M96 IMS bearing to explode in my 2005 987 for that storage slot.

Are you saying there was a Brit once that was dumb enough to buy an American car? Tell me it’s not so...

I just found this thread. I am presently debating trading in my 2018 718 Cayman GTS, for a preowned Carrera T with just over 600 miles. I love the Cayman styling, but I am not a huge fan of the engine sound. The Carrera T sound is much nicer. I have to decide if I want to take the financial hit now....the T is priced under 100 K, previous owner had it for a few months while waiting for a GT3.

If it's consistent with what Jeremy Clarkson says on Top Gear then I can't disagree with him.

I thought that was how you were able to tell if your British car needed fluids? As in, if it isn't leaking it's empty?

this --^ are further examples of first world problems

Although taking a $20-$30k depreciation hit so that you can have a 991T to drive while you wait for your GT3, is I think a top-quartile-of-first-world problem.
