Default Headlight Beam Adjust Defective? help!

Hi All,

Just got this warning today. Did a quick search with nothing helpful.

Anyone come across this and it’s fix? Thanks!

One of the adaptive headlight motors probably went bad.

Turn lights on before starting your car...... and then start your car........ see which headlight doesn't do it's dance.

Could be broken or loose plastic headlight level sensor arm that's connected to the suspension. It's a hinged plastic piece that "tells" the headlights how to adapt based on the suspension's geometry. Common malfunction on BMW's...haven't seen it brought up too much here on Rennlist

I got this error message right after installing my side markers. Weird coincidence, but it never came back. Mine is under CPO but since it hasn’t come back on I haven’t worried about it. I will take it in before the CPO runs out.

BTW, how do you adjust the zero'd level of the lights? They seem a bit low at all times, even as they adjust for terrain. On the Macan there is a knurled **** under the hood. Easy. I'm guessing on a 991 you take apart the panels inside the frunk?

(Editing after going out for a better look)

I see that in the latest manuals (2017+) they say to go to the dealer, but it's very likely the procedure is the same as in the 991.1 and 997 models. The tool does not appear to be included in 991.2 tool box. But it is really just a long Allen wrench.

The adjustment holes are there under the pullout toolkits on either side of the trunk. After peeking in the holes on the 991.2, it appears this works the same way. Be sure to use the vertical adjustment under the topmost black rubber cover. They recommend avoiding the lateral adjustment under the blue cover.

Here's a link from the 991.1 manuals: https://www.porscheownersmanuals.com...ghts-Adjusting

Here's a link to a post I made back in the 997 days showing the 5mm Allen wrench I used: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...l#post11551638. The tool I used there was barely long enough but I was able to get it to work. Others in that thread have suggestions for longer wrenches.

FYI, I got this off eBay. Nice and long, with a 5mm ball tip to make blind insertion easy. Worked perfectly. Under $10, including shipping.

hi
did you end up finding a solution?

My error message just popped up this afternoon.

I just started the car and both headlights move up and down and are level...

thanks!

Did you ever manage to find a resolution to your problem? Like you, I have the error message, and the levelling on startup works fine. However, the error persists...

I've replaced the adjustment motor and I have tried a new control unit. It *seems* that my problem is with the actual connector itself not making a good contact. If you are having the same issue, try seeing if the connector is good and/or if the wires into the plug are well seated or degraded.
