Default Factory installation question/help

I ordered my car from the factory with a CXX option for a side stripe. I know it was expensive to do it this way, but I wanted it positioned properly so it didn't look "flat". I have been very happy with my decision as the color blends with the wheels and becomes very discrete in the sunlight. Most often, you barely see it.

Now, the problem is that I want to put PPF on the car. Unfortunately, the stripe was applied over the factory rear protection film. You might be able to see the line where it meets the guard in the above picture. I am trying to find a 3M pantone that matches, but North American 3M codes vary from the European 3M sample color sheet I was asked to choose from.

Has anyone with a GT3, R, T or other variant run into the same problem in this rear section? If you could let me know how you proceeded, I would greatly appreciate it.
Many thanks!

Very kind of you. Thank you.

Hopefully I can get this fixed without too much of a headache.

You know another option is to PPF right over the factory film.... I've seen this done before and when properly applied you won't notice that the film is over or under... The only other option as you no doubt know already is to remove the section of stripe over the factory film, remove the factory film, then reapply the stripe. No idea if you can somehow pull the stripe back far enough without damaging to get the factory ppf off. Maybe Moe (Mistry) will chime in here as I am sure he's come across this at his shop.... Good Luck!

Great looking car.

Do you store the car on the stands or is just for some maintenance work?
I suggest not keep the car more than few days on the stands.

A good PPF installer can remove the stripes remove stone guards PPF and reaply the stripes and on top full PPF.

I think the issue as OP stated is matching the stripe color, assuming that removal might damage the factory stripes or make them more likely to be wonky when reapplied. The stripe color was a CXX option.

Any time I've removed factory stickers or stripes they aren't usually re-usable. Maybe not the case here as so new....

My PPF specialist has recommended that I pull off the existing film. He doesn't think that section of the stripe will be salvageable. Hence the dilemma

The car was temporarily raised to remove a tire with a slow leak. I was surprised as Porsche replaced the tire instead of patching it. Very pleasantly surprised and impressed!

I also would first try to put the xpel over the existing film(s). If it doesn't work (I can't imagine why it wouldn't) then you are no worse off. Just remove all 3 and start over.

I am not sure if the new PPF would be able to seal tightly enough around the existing factory film guard? I didn't think it would be acceptable. Has anyone here seen this done before where PPF was applied right over the existing factory film?

Porsche dealers will never patch a tire. Some will argue that is ridiculous (that's one of those perennial Rennlist arguments), but they simply wont do it.

Unfortunately the Porsche stone guards don't really protect all that well. I have my rockers covered to the height of the door handle sweeping over to the wheel well. What you might do is PPF the front hood, bumper and fenders, under the doors and aound the rear of the wheel wells and under the bottom of the rear bumper where the wheels are and not touch the rocker panels. Once the Stone Guards get a bit old and yellow then do the replacement. It is a shame to destroy the side stripes after just getting them done at the factory, they are beautiful.
I say do a work around at least for a while. Also when you do replace you can get the striping in the same color and only replace the rear section not the ones on the door.

My stock stone guards had yellowed so I had them replace with Xpel. The installer, whom I've been using for years, told me the stock plastic is not as good as Xpel and is thicker so the leading edge looks dirty all of the time. Anyway if you're covering the whole car the stone guards won't be used. I would not go over them.

Unfortunately, there’s no way, at least that I know of, that you can safely remove vinyl without stretching it or tearing it. The material is very thin.

your best bet is to have your original dealer you bought the car from, order you a new decal directly from factory. Parts dept needs to do this with factory. We’ve had that done a few times.

if they do approve that request, I’d buy several sets so you’ll have them when the time comes to replace due to wear and tear.

the other option is to look into Avery vinyl line, and see if there’s a close match to what you have.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Moe. I have the European 3M pantone and I will get the Canadian dealer to order some extra sets. It will be worth it as I keep my cars forever. I will probably have to replace the PPF in 10-12 years... so I'll be ready.
Again, many thanks for your help.Wish I was closer to your shop!
Cheers. I'll post pics for you when done.
