First time Porsche owner, wanting to to get one for a long time now, only took 9 months to find the perfect one, in Minnesota. After a awesome evening with Carjunky1 and his collection, (last owner and great seller btw) set out from Porsche Minneapolis next day, where the car was getting a minor warranty issue sorted out, on the 2,300 mile drive back to Oakland, through Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and finally California. What can I say about the car - epic and effortless, especially on these roads, closest we get to Autobahn, great GT car. I was apprehensive about the miles I would be covering daily but found myself wanting to go farther, the 5 days flew by.
Anyway y'all don't need me to tell you how awesome these cars are, but the trip was everything I imagined it would be, sometimes you can meet your heros. Drove down arrow straight roads I saw pictures of as a kid from Ireland, wondering if someday....
Stray Observations
- I know people prefer one or the other but the 18 ways are unbelievably comfortable after 8 hours on the road, only discomfort was my right leg on the accelerator
- Lots of 80MPH highways now, a pleasant surprise, not such a fan of the rumble strips they seem to be putting in the middle on all the two lane roads, super jarring to cross when overtaking.
- Jesus California, worst road conditions by far and worst drivers, but hey it's home!
- Didn't see one 911 on the whole trip, until the exit gate from Yosemite and what a one to see, a Chalk GT3 Touring being driven by a much better driver, you can see in the last link above.
This was a major bucket list item for me. I want to get back on the road - best part of all of this is I still have the car! Next up twisty bits.
Looks like an epic trip. You got out of here just in time, they have already begun salting the roads. The longest time I have spent in my car is six hours, and I agree, the right foot on the accelerator is the only discomfort.
Beautiful car, great drive and beautiful photos!! I had considered taking deliver of my 19 C2S at the LA Experience Center and driving it back east however, it just didn’t work out due to delivery expect in January and not wanting to deal with the likelihood of snow and ice on my drive home
Epic trip! Any traffic tickets? How did the front fare? Is it protected by ppf? Congrats.
Car is PPFd and also has a built in detector both of which probably saved my butt on the way. There was only one blatant speed trap that I saw on the way, on 76 in Colorado.
