2016/vs/2018 GTS
Hello, my quick question is I have a Black 2016 GTS that drives like a Queen. Knock on wood, no issues at all! However, my local dealer has a 2018 GTS on the lot , with 10,000 miles. My question ,because I will get killed on my trade in is guessing to step up to the table would be 50,000 ish(with taxes)... would it be worth it? My many questions are the real difference in the cars, speed, exhaust and overall experience to my 2016. Is it worth the money to upgrade or should I just feel real good about what I have. Anyone with a newer then 2016, please chime in. Love to hear the pluses and minuses.Thank you in advance!

And they say I am a staunch 991.2 advocate.
I wouldn't make this trade, were I in your shoes. Reasons: The engine in your car is a lovely thing, and I prefer the simpler 991.2s to the more powerful versions. That's a VERY personal view—as in, just mine. Carrera to Carrera, I'll take the 991.2. GTS to GTS, I have to think about it a bit...and for $50k it's a no-brainer. And you say your car drives beautifully and has been trouble-free? Suspect it's beautiful in black, too. My vote: Treat your car to a spa treatment, maybe do some new wheels or suspension, and enjoy its new lease on life.

I have a 991.2 gts and have driven 991.1 gts. I prefer the 991.2 for more power and apple car play. There is no way I would spend 50k to upgrade from 991.1 to 991.2 though. Def not worth that. If I were in your shoes I would do some power upgrades and I have read threads about ways to get aftermarket units with carplay installed. Thats if I really just felt i had to have those things. I would think you could find a trade deal for less than 50k difference too though. Also you could wait for 992S that will have as much power as a 991.2 gts. That trade might be smarter move if you like 992 when they come out.

I previously owned a 2012 991.1S and then a 2013 991.1S w/powerkit. I currently have a 2018 991.2GTS.
The 991.2GTS is significantly quicker than the .1GTS (or an S with power kit), it has a much better PCM, and a host of other minor tweaks (deeper center console storage, frameless rear mirror, RAS as an option, and much more). The .1 has a more emotional engine note but also COV issues and the infamous “stumble.” No major issues have surfaced with the 991.2 yet (although I am keeping my eye on early failure of water pumps that I have read in other threads - my car has been flawless for 3800 miles and 7 months so far). Styling is subjective - I think both have classic shapes and the .2 tweaks have really grown on me (and the lobster back of the .1 feels dated).
With all that being said, if I had a 991.1 (especially a GTS) that was running like a queen, I would not find the 991.2 changes quite compelling enough to upgrade, especially in light of the cost difference.
Both are fantastic cars!

Have you driven the 2018 GTS? If not please do and come back and let us know if YOU think it is worth it. By that time there will be a few pages of responses, a few arguments, and maybe some useful posts mixed in; however, I think you will answer your own question after you drive it, especially if money is not a factor.

The performance difference is simply not worth the extra coin IMHO.
Think of the hookers and blow you could get for 50k...

Very true but it should not come to a $50k difference - are you sure the difference would be that much? Find out when you drive the 2018.

I may have a slight preference for NA engines as newer turbo variants are faster more capable but less engaging to me.
What is attracting you to the upgrade? As others have suggested, drive and decide.
Personally I'd pass and maybe invest the $50k for a year or 2 and step up to a used .2 GT3.

Keep the 991.1 GTS and wait for the 992 GTS.

I had a 2015 991.1 GTS and was looking at 991.2 GTS. It did not speak to me at all. The main reason being a turbo engine. I loved my NA engine too much to change to a turbo. Not even at a break even price point. So my advice would be go test drive the 991.2 and see if you like it. It feels different and it drives and sounds different. And if the delta is 50K, I'd say the choice is easy.

If you're really happy with your current vehicle - stick with it, invest the 50K and buy the next generation 992GTS - its probably only a cpl of years away.

One reason to do it: the 991.2 GTS is FAST. Faster than the 991.1 GT3 on the Nordschleife. And just 2 seconds slower than the GT3 RS.
Exhaust note? If you don't like it, change it - with headers and performance cats.
