I'm in a similar boat and was wondering the same thing.

Everyone's biased of course.

I'd keep the '16 for its NA engine. You can switch out to a 3.0TT whenever you want down the road. No need to rush. No need to take such a hefty hit on depreciation.

Personally I like the looks of the .2 more but I have to say to stick with the 3.8 if it were me.

The delta between the 0-60 times for the .1 and .2 is just .2 seconds. I would think free flow cats and a K&N air filter plus a tune would even things out.

A tune will not do nearly as much to a .1 as it will to a .2, and the seat of the pants feel of the .2 sure feels more than a .2 second difference to me.

For a 991.1 GTS, Car and Driver measured 0 to 60 time of 4.3 seconds with a manual and 3.6 with PDK.

For the 991.2, the numbers were 3.4 and 3.0 flat.

In fact, the 991.1 GTS with PDK is about dead even with a 991.2 base Carrera with PDK. And manual-to manual, the 991.2 C2 is quicker everywhere up to 150.

I think the 991.1 manual they tested was on the slow side, but the difference between the 991.1 and 991.2 GTS is clearly more like 0.5-0.6 seconds.

That is a big difference. Mods for a .1 to achieve that 3.0 number would probably approach the 50K$. I need to do another test drive!!!

This is from Motor Trend's review of a 2017 GTS
"The quickest accelerating of the GTS models, the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 GTS Coupe, will hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds"

I own a 991.1 GTS and would save the $50k. Get headers and a COBB tune...call it a day. Tighten the suspension if you want to track it.

Also, if you don't need the rear seats 991.1 GT3s are dropping in price.

AAK GTS have you done any mods to your GTS? The 3.4 makes sense to me, when I drove the demo GTS it felt slightly faster than my 15, but a 3.0 0-60 time is in league with a lightly modded GT3. I have a .2 GT3 coming in January, but I will probably keep the GTS.

I have not done any mods yet...I'm first going to upgrade the rotors then suspension as I like to track it occasionally.

I have a 991.2 GTS cab (tuned) and a 991.2 GT3, and I don't think my GTS would have any problem hanging with the GT3. It's a really fast car with a ton of torque. In most driving situations the GTS will probably be faster. The 991.1 GTS isn't even in the same ballpark as these two cars.

Tuned...yes I would agree but stock vs stock very close and too close for me to lay out $50k.

To me 991.1 GTS is a pinnacle of the great NA/MT combo. When the time came for me to move away from this combo, and as I could not get an allocation for a gt3T, I chose a TTS.
991.2 GTS is a great machine for sure, but if go turbo, why not Turbo? Just my way of thinking. And you can get a 2014-2015 TTS for less than a 50K delta, if instead of trading in you would go sell your GTS.
Just be sure you won't regret selling it, as I still miss mine
