I know very old thread but if anyone is looking for info i'd like to help.
As others have mentioned changing gear oil can help a little.
In my 997.1 it was so bad that i almost could not shift into 1st gear in the winter until after 15 or so miles of driving. When i switched to Mobil PTX (Suncoast sells it) it helped allot. And i mean allot. Although a tad difficult, i was able to put it into first when cold.
Similar i had on my current 991.1 when at temps close to 32F it was a bit difficult to shift into first. i got the car with 29k on the odo. Drove it about a month and did major maintenance. Changed trans fluid to PTX and it also helped somewhat. Not as much as on 997 but the issue wasn't nearly as bad to begin with.
Just my .02

P.S.
Aston martin had similar issues with their manual transmission shifting from first to second when cold. They changed their oil from Shell (i think) to a custom blend Castrol.

My 991 is the best I ever had at cold shifting. I have 60k miles now.
My 996 had some shifting issues when cold, but I did a number of mods that incrementally improved the shifting until its almost perfect now.
My 997.2 has hard shifting into 1st when cold. Sometimes I have to release the clutch and press the clutch again and it works. Once it warms up, I have no issues, and that only happens on the coldest days, so its not really a big deal.
