Default Thinking of going from a 2018 z06 auto to a 2019 base 911 with PDK

I have a 2018 Z06 automatic with the 2lz package. The car is very fun and fast but I am very disappointed in the customer service that I get at the service department of the chevy dealership. I have a car that has a sticker of close to $90k but I get treated the same as a kid who comes in with a chevy cruz. I was recently invited to the porsche experience and I drove some of the cars on the track. I liked the Carrera GTS but its a bit out of my budget but a regular new 911 with pdk if its fairly base I can do. The thing is I live in south florida where we have no corners and I love the insane straight line acceleration I get with the z06 with its 650 hp and 650 lbs feet of torque. I know I will lose some of that with the 911 but with the engine in the back I can get faster off the line acceleration and most importantly much better customer service in the service department. What would I miss about the z06 and what will I like about the 911? Already looking forward to have 2 more seats in the back. Im assuming service and if I keep the car out of warranty then repair prices can cost a pretty penny?

My service experience with the Porsche brand hasn't been great. There are only two dealers in my area, one takes 3 weeks to get you in, the other can't fix anything right the first, second, third, or fourth time. Reserve a loaner, and when you get there they ran out. They promise to deliver the car to make up for the trouble, then they end up not having anyone to do it.

Hopefully the car will not need much service from here on out, because if it does I'm done with Porsche. For the price we pay for these cars, it's inexcusable. I got better service from the Chevy dealer on a $14k Focus.

I traded a 2016 manual Z06 3LZ on a 2017 Targa GTS. I do not miss anything about the Z06 except maybe the PDR in comparison. I really drive my cars too and the Porsche is way better for me. I guess you might miss the sound. You will love the PDK! If you get a base 911 then you will miss some torque for sure, but you will put down all the power vs fighting the rear end all the time unless you have put some R compounds on the vette.

I had a new C5 and then a new C6 for 14 years before getting my first 991S a few years ago. I am now on my third 911 (this one I will keep forever) and haven’t looked back. I enjoyed my Vettes a lot but I love the Porsche experience. So much fun to drive!

I had a C6 with a 427 in it. If I said I miss driving like a complete jerk in that thing, I’d be lying. It was just too easy to drive go-to-jail fast. And this was in VA where anything over 80 mph is an automatic court appearance, etc. In the end, I was lucky. Porsche since then and no regrets. Even with the C7 refinements, I don’t think you’ll miss very much. Flat out speed, yes. But as a complete package, no. Porsche, to me, are much better do everything well cars.
Change for the car, not the service IMO. You’ll find good and bad in that, just like anywhere.
Good luck in your decision!

Hi, you're making the right choice.. The Z06 is a gimmicky car that fills up the stat sheet and has "faster laps, slalom, skid pad times" ..etc. In reality the 8 speed auto is a joke with the gears 5, 6, 7, and 8th all being overdrive gears. After 130 the Z is slow. The auto mags overrate the car tremendously. The Z also runs on cheater tires. GM inflates numbers to get sales. The vette fanboys are like loyal islam extremists, you can't tell them this or it's war.

My stock GTS would pull on an 8 speed Z06 repeatedly above 130. Now with a tune the GTS walks the Z06 at all speeds. Even while stock, to get a clean race I'd have to let the Z get going in it's gear THEN go full throttle in my car. The 8 speed is hot garbage.. It also overheats all the time.

Sorry to bash your car but these are my first hand experiences which occurred 3 different times when my friends and I had a Z06 to thrash around.

So, with all that said. The base model won't be as fast but it will drive better than the Z in every way imaginable. The PDK makes the Corvettes transmission look like kindergarten work.

A C6 Z06/ZR1 is the real deal. A much better and true corvette vs a hot wheels C7.

I have to agree here, I was not impressed with the vette transmission, IMHO felt totally unrefined compared to the PDK.

I don't have a wife or kids and the z06 is my only car. I only live about a mile from work and in the 10 months of owning it since it was brand new I have only put 4k miles on it as my daily driver. Can I do the same with the Porsche 911 2019 model? The trunk in the front and the seats in the back seem to have more room than my z06's trunk does.

Why not buy a used GTS a year or 2 old if that's what you really like and save $50K from the price of a new one. Prior to my 4 Porsches I have owned, I had two Corvettes. My biggest complaint was exactly what you said, I get treated the same as a regular Chevy customer and service was terrible. I can't say Porsche is that much better, but.....the car is more fun.

Well at least you get a comparable loaner car and loaners are available if you need one. I got an Equinox as my last loaner when they realized the factory painted bumper had a bad paint job and needed to be replaced under warranty lol.

Get a carrera T.. Track the hell out of it and experience a true TRACK READY CAR. Porsche's do not break on the track and Porsche's do not overheat
The PDK is a automated manual, no torque converter - has faster downshifts. - can be driven crazy on the track without overheating
The 991 porsche 911 chassis is also superior and easier to drive at the limit - dont get snap over steer.

Lastly the 911 T and 991.1 S punch above thier class and can hang with much faster cars. (driven both own the 991.1S)

Corvette are good, especially the C7 generation

I just find it more rewarding to drive the 911 on the limit and I have track a new c7 z06.

FYI if you want a car for straight line you will be completely unhappy unless you get a Turbo 911 - because vette is faster on the straight bits ( the butt dyno on the z06 is great! )

Also , keep in mind the C8 is coming! Im going to test drive that and the new 992... one will be my next car.

I drove the 911 T at the track but I need something that is not only a toy but my daily driver.

The T, and all other 911's are a true daily driver AND true track car. If you want gobs of power/tq get a .2 GTS.

Also agreed with snake eyes. All Carreras are a punch above their class and have underrated hp/tq.

I had a 2015 C7 z51 with Mag Ride that I ordered and took museum delivery on. I loved the car and planned on buying a new Z06, but then decided I would like to try something else. I ended up buying a 2017 991.2 C2S with PDK, Sport Chrono, RAS, Sports exhaust, etc and absolutely love it. My wife preferred the looks of the Corvette until she took her first ride in the 911......then she was a 911 convert. The 991.2 S is a 3.1 car vs my Corvette at 3.8 0-60. Through the 1/4 the 911 is 11.5 compared to 12.0 for the Corvette. I am fully aware of Z06 states, but a Z06 would have its hands full against my S on the street between stop lights. The 911 also has a better ride, better sound insulation, better visibility, better fit and finish and is better in about every way as compared to my past C7. I would not go back to ANY C7 after experiencing the 911. However, with that said, I am very interested in seeing the new ME Corvette. If I don’t go that direction I will buy a 992 C2S or GTS. You have a great car, but if you are after the total experience then a 911 is hard to beat. I would say the base 991.2 has about identical performances stats as a regular C7 performance wise but will out do it in every other “practical” category. In summary, the new 991.2 in base form will match performance with a 991.1 S...... but everything else has been improved over the .1. Improved suspension, improved PDK, improved Bose, and faster infotainment center. The .2 is a much torque rich and improved car over the .1.
