Default Homemade grill screens

I posted this in the rennline grill thread but figured I should separate it to avoid any conflict with their product thread.

I made a set of grill screens with screen material I ordered from Amazon.
Removed the active flaps but left the motors attached and plugged in to avoid throwing any codes.
Used the active flap “frames” to secure the screen behind the bumper trim.
Kind of a pain in the butt. I am very happy with the end results though. I think I may make a “dummy” one for the center just to make it all uniform looking. But I will need some ambition to do that anytime soon.

Worked great for the track day at VIR

Looks great! How did you secure the screens to the flap "frame"?

Cheers, -Peter

I just bent the screen material to fit under the frames in a way that secured them when I put the screws back in to hold the frames.
Nothing fancy...just took some patience.

Nice. Any codes or other complaints from your car?

I’m all over this. A giant C-clamp recently took out the flaps in my left duct.

Can you post a link to the material you ordered off Amazon?

phx991, sorry for the damage.

Knuckleheads w/unsecured loads are everywhere. The semi-tractor tire carcasses are another sh*tload of crap on the road, as well as gravel trucks.

Always keep an eye for them but sometimes you can't avoid them. I know first hand.

Well done GT3 Nut, looks great. Agree that the center dummy opening needs the screen to finish the look. Keep us posted.

Wow, that clamp really traveled really far after it went through the duct...a few more inches and your wife would be looking for a new husband!

This makes me ill. Had something fly off a truck recently that left huge black marks on the front bumper and front side of my car. Was super lucky that it did not penetrate PPF and I was able to rub it off. GT3, did you pull the bumper for this?

I would hope the photo of the clamp on the seat was for illustration and not where the darn thing ended its travel!

Looks great. Did you remove the bumper? What did you bend the grill edges down with?

For sure he did. There's no way to do all that with the bumper on. I just pulled the bumper off my car to install Rennline grills this weekend.
