i guess the part where im a little lost with this is why didn't they just do this for the .2? Clearly R&D cost wasn't an issue as they have already manufactured similar header designs for past models. Was it a spacing issue with the turbo? Or was it purposely designed to be sub optimal so they can use the same setup for 992 and squeeze more power out of it when needed?

The instant I saw the new turbo motor did not have headers, and all the 991 N/a did, I suspected it was deliberate to only release power incrementally for future models. It was always going to be a no brainer to put headers on the 991.2.

This.. The 991.2 engine was the beta/test mule version for the 992. They did a great job but they had to leave some on the table for future models.

We saw the same thing happen with the the 997.2 to the 991.1.


4.0, I wonder what the 992 plenum will look like.
