15% Ethanol and 991s?
Apparently, the feds are going to approve the addition of 15% ethanol to gasoline on a year-round basis. Any information on how the use of gas containing 15% ethanol might affect our engines and fuel systems? How about warranties?

Ethanol is a bummer—for our engines, for our air, and for our pocketbooks. I thought we passed legislation to rid it from our fuels...good to see we're heading back to it again.
Ah, just checked. We did pass legislation to get rid of it. And now the oil industry and environmental groups are joining forces to fight the plan to require 15% ethanol in our gasoline. Talk about strange bedfellows....

Less oil that is used to make gas....oil companies don’t like that. Corn to make ethanol, environmentalists don’t like that because they want to get rid of cars.
Simple. Just one rare occasion that the two intersect.

Where is AAA when it is needed? Seems to me there might be an effective lawsuit to block such legislation, as the gov't is proposing something that not only isn't good for the environment (ethanol has been shown to be less than it promises to be, and destructive even at 5-10%) but requires something that violates the mechanical needs of some rather expensive consumer products: cars. As in, all cars, which tend to be a significant asset to most Americans in both % terms as well as utility whether we're talking about a 991 or a Civic.

I think it’s because Ethanol is not really effective...
A Decrease in Greenhouse Gases?
Some environmentalists also question whether corn ethanol will ultimately help combat global warming. Dan Becker says it's necessary to take into account the energy expended to produce the fuel.
"The way we make ethanol now," Becker says, involves "seven passes over the field with a diesel tractor, heating the corn to convert it into ethanol, and transporting the fuel in diesel-guzzling trucks."
Marshall estimates that producing 15 billion gallons of corn ethanol – less than half of Bush's projected goal for 2017 – would increase greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural production by almost 8 percent.
Furthermore, Becker states, ethanol has a lower energy content than gasoline, so to meet the same energy demands, more gallons of ethanol would have to be produced.
A problem often cited with ethanol is that, when the production process is taken into account, it will ultimately release more greenhouse gas than gasoline. Becker says more recent studies show that's not the case. Overall, he says, corn ethanol isn't a loser but, "it's not a big winner, either. The best thing that we can say about ethanol is that it is not gasoline – and that is damning with faint praise."
The Environmental Footprint
Elizabeth Marshall worries that attempting to curb greenhouse gases with increased corn ethanol production will ultimately come at the cost of the country's water and soil.
"Soil erosion, nutrient runoff, and pulling new land into corn production are all concerns," she says.
To meet the increased demand for ethanol, many farmers want to bring into use lands that are currently protected. Marshall also predicts that higher corn prices will give farmers incentive to revert to environmentally unfriendly practices.
Farming's environmental footprint has always been a concern, says Marshall. "Increased demand for ethanol will only exacerbate existing problems."

Plus all the $$$ subsidies that go to corn farmers
they don’t need it, they have a lock on the fructose market, that stuff is not part of a healthy diet for the body, just like ethanol isn’t for the automobile
can’t we all just have corn on the cob lol

It is not good for motorcycles as well. My Harley recently had started to stall when coming to a stop and to make a long story short my Indy Shop found a hole in the fuel line that goes up into the tank. It was low in the line so always in the fuel and the hole appeared to have jagged edges that could have been from deterioration. With any luck Congress will step up and work out a compromise of some sort. I know, fat chance but Trump cannot do it on his own so there is hope.

Idiotic greed. Like someone else said, follow the money of the lobbyists into the pockets of those in Congress. 15% ethanol will pretty much cause faster degradation in every car on the road. Maybe time to invest in a car shop specializing in fuel systems? Going to be a lot of cars needing repairs.

Forget about being GREEN for a moment. (I have no idea whether it helps or hurts the environment.) Just focus on the Stoichiometric values. Normal Gas is 14.7:1 E85 is 9.6:1
Which means to hit Lambda1 You need a lot more of E85 poured down the neck. However, if you are tuned for it. you get a bucket load of power. : )

This is all about lobbyists and the bogus fools in Washington. Ethanol virtually ruined marine engines and is not good for our engines. Ethanol pulls moisture out of the air and guess where it goes. This is not good but made a lot of legislators more wealthy which is their shameful objective. They are not car guys or environmental people, they are self consumed money people.
