I put the phone on a tripod and took some pics of the rear of my T with and without a 7mm spacer for my OEM winter and summer set. For science. Benefits of staying home....

Very nice and indeed, "scientific". Bravo Zulu!

You appear to have the same wheels as I do, 20" Carrera Sport Wheels, is that correct?

Do they rub, poke or touch the frame at all?

I am thinking of pulling the 5mm off the rear wheels and playing it safe.

Gas

Yes they are the Carrera Sport wheels. Going off of looks alone, I removed the spacer. Was just up for pictures. The winters looked fine to me with the spacer, but my preference for the 20" wheels is for an OEM fitment.

FWIW it seems people do run 5-7mm spacers on stock 20" wheels just fine... this is mostly a cosmetic decision in my opinion.

I am not sure I am allowed to disclose a particular parts supplier on this site but the why would this official Porsche parts supplier print the last line.

Genuine Porsche 5 mm spacer kit.Widen the track at front and rear to enhance the appearance of your Porsche. Centering elements on either side for a perfect union with wheel and hub. This set of four comes with a full set of 20 lug nuts, and also a new set of locking lug nuts (if you need them). Our kit gives you the option to use/not use locking lug bolts.

Set Includes:
  • 4 x Wheel spacer, 5-mm #1
  • 8 x Countersunk screw, M6 x 16 #2
  • 20 x Wheel bolt, M14 x 1.5 x 49, black #3
  • 1 x Wheel bolt with anti-theft protection set (4 bolts) #4
Fitment:
- All Carrera 991 models - 2012-2019
- All Boxster 981 models - 2013-2019 (Recommended for 18" wheels).
- All Cayman 981 models - 2014-2019

Not compatible with the 20" Sport Techno or 20" Sport Classic wheels, or vehicles equipped with snow chains.

Would you see any issues running 5mm spacers in front and OEM in the rear?

The disclaimer for the Sport Techno wheels ls likely because of the low offsets..11.5 x 20 ET68 (NB) and ET48 (WB).

Same with the Sport Classics 11.5 x 20 ET56

Also, Wing Commander runs 7mm spacers all around and he likes it.... if you like the look on your car, you should do it!

Indeed I do!

I collected my new 991.2 Carrera T in April 2018 (in the UK).

Litchfield Motors fitted 7mm spacers all round, along with various other modifications.

My car has the ‘standard’ 20” Carrera S wheels.

All good and my car’s now done 28,000 miles!

I have 7mm spacers front & back on my .2 GTS and I like the look, which someone else here suggested. There are a couple threads from last year on this forum with lots of pics of various setups if anyone is interested.

Were you not put off by the fact that they use the standard bolts with the 7mm spacers? Stopped me
buying them, seems like a lot of thread to lose?

Funny you should say that. My car was in the Porsche Centre recently. They suggested longer bolts. I queried this with Iain Litchfield, but they are very happy that they’re still perfectly safe. They have 7mm spacers on their own Carrera T, with standard bolts. They are very thorough with a good reputation, earned over 20 years, and I trust their judgement.

Standard bolts on my 5mm spacers as well. I get 4.5 full turns before it tightens up-no issues so far.

Yes, some factory wheels may have the spacers "cooked in" via the offset. Wheel offsets are key—as they always have been with 911s, going back to the 15x7 "R" Fuchs of 1967-1968—and the 991.2 introduced a twist that many wheel companies and individuals missed, so that wheel offset and hub offset must be accounted for in a body that looks the same as its predecessor. The only other example I can think of in the 911's history is the 911 3.2 > 964 offset change, but not too many people missed that hub offset change—as it finally sent the original "Fuchsfelge" wheel to the boneyard after 23~ years. The 944 did a similar thing for similar reason (anti-lock brakes), which eliminated the availability of dished Fuchs after the 1986 model year. The 991.2 Carrera-line cars moved the rear hubs out for RAS, which presented packaging challenges in narrow-body 991.2 models. Now squeeze in intercoolers...

As someone else pointed out, the wider rear flares of the C4/GTS/GT3 models will allow more "wiggle room" for potentially wider tires and bigger wheels (325s?), but the combination of the three elements above are make or break. That the NB 991.2 will swallow the same 20-inch wheel/tire sizes used on a 991.2 Turbo, GT3, etc is pretty incredible, but only heightens the "make or break" aspect of rear clearance. It may not be as tight as a 991 GT3 RS back there, but it's tight. As to the spacers, remember too that Porsche has to "allow for" global laws, production constraints, and contingencies that owners or the aftermarket can choose to ignore.

Fwiw, I've been running the OE 20-inch Carrera S wheels on my car with factory 5mm spacers all around and TechArt springs without issue for a while now, and the car gets used. As always, YMMV...
