PS4S is not a track tyre. TW 360.

Even a Cup2 is barely a track tyre and it is TW180.

AR-1’s are cheap and great at the track, but noisey as hell on the street. TW 80.

R888R are good alrounder, for street and track at TW100. Not as noisey as AR-1.

TrofeoR are fantastic, but expensive to rip up on a few track days. Also TW80. Quiet on the street. I guess you get what you pay for.

Hah. I'll 2nd that on the PS4S - I've chunked 2 sets of them badly, one set after 1 track day was so destroyed I was concerned about driving home on them. I've *just* got a set of Cup 2s. We'll see how they go, but based on all the above I'm not optimistic. Budget for separate wheels, trailer, tow car, etc. just doesn't exist for me.

Nankang takes longer to warm up than R888R, 2-2.5 laps vs .75 lap.

since we don’t run a GT car, I only do about 7-8 laps per session so R888R is better for me. Why only 7-8 laps, because we don’t have same cooling for transmission as a GT car nor dry oil sump and de-foamer. If cool outside, ie 60-70’s I may run longer.

i guess I was more asking for a street tire I can track. Didnt want to go CUP2 or AR-1 type stuff precisely for them being too focused on track and might be too rough for the street

then RE71 or cup2. But after a DE weekend the corners are poop, they vibrate etc etc. best to get a second set. Cup 2 are terrible in rain, worse after a track weekend.
I run MS 4S on my OEM rims.

This is the worst advice ever. RE71R is a better tire for the track. Michelin Sport Cup 2S are great, but only as a dual purpose track tire that you can drive to and from the track. They are not, in my opinion, better than the RE71s on the track and I’ve used both. I could never get anywhere near my personal best time with the Cup2s. I had RE71, Cup 2 and then went back to RE71 and the better results with the RE71 were instantaneous. Beat my personal best twice in the same session with the RE71s at Sebring.

Funny you guys bumped my thread, still looking at better options 2 years alter. I've decided that I don't have the time and space to run a full race car with trailer, so I' m trying to make do with 3-4 track days a year and keep the C2S.

Since I started this thread I tried the R888R and they were very good, but rears were bald after 2 track days and price was close to the MPSC2. Seems I do overdrive the tires. I'm thinking overall the MPSC2 are the best bet in terms of a mix streetability and track, but would love to get the RE-71R in our sizes, like I said the 295 in the rear are a tad skinny for the .2

As for track times I find the RE-71R are sticky right at the beginning of the session and get greasy over time whereas the MPSC2 take a few laps to warm up and then are pretty consistent. Times are pretty similar.

I haven't tried the Nankang, in fact I can't seem to find them anymore here in Canada...

UTQG Threadsware grades are misleading... "The vehicle repeatedly runs a prescribed 400-mile test loop in West Texas for a total of 7,200 miles." according to tirerack

Newer technologies will allow sticky tires to last longer (The CUP 2S are a good example of that), they need to come up with a more precise system that not only gives you the wear of the tire but the grip and confort.

Thanks for the advice, I would try the Toyo R888R when I'm done with my CUP 2s but not available in OEM GT3 sizes :-(

What impact would it have on grip if I went one size up? 255/35ZR-20 front instead of 245/35ZR-20, 315/30ZR-20 in the back instead of 305/30ZR-20

Anyone knows?

I ran the 255/315 setup on my narrow body C2S without a problem. GT3 owners seem to report the same as well. The extra width doesn't change anything really.

I run 255/35/20 and 325/30/20 on my GTS. So it has 9 fr and 12 rear the same as GT3 but slightly different off sets. And its great.

Cup2 is not a track tyre . The sidewalls are far too soft. A TrofeoR has much stiffer sidewalls and is far better at the track but expensive.

Cup2-R is a track tyre. But they last 5 minutes and really only good when you are ready to set a PB.

Any person that says any of these tyres are bad in the wet, is not a track guy. Over steer is fun. Track guys induce it deliberately on the street. If you have ever said the words, “ The car just stepped out and there was nothing i could do” then you can’t drive. You are not a track guy.

I went on a country run where we drive very fast, in the pouring rain on cup2 and theyvwere perfectly fine. They have 3 rain grooves for goodness sake. R888R have One and AR-1’s have zero. And yet, i have driven all on the street in all conditions. I don’t try and do 140 through a corner on the street when its raining.

At the speed limit, you are going so slow in comparison to the track, its like everythjng happens in slow motion and you get an hours warning things are happening. It doesn’t take any thought at all to correct. Its automatic after being on the track.

If it’s not, then you need a lit more seat time and a lot more instruction.

If the back of my car steps out, i say, oh you want to play . That’s not stepping out, THIS is stepping out and i light them up, and laugh.

What non track people call dangerous, track people call fun or normal.

A cup2 is a wet weather tyre in comparison to an AR-1. And the AR-1 is still fine.

I find the cup2 to be an awesome street tyre. Its quiet and at 180TW reasonably good life.

I tore a bead of a cup2 at the track, so i won’t run them at the track ever again. The sidewall is too soft, especially for a hi powered turbo.
