Unhappy Tire Pressure

Hello All,

This morning I got tire pressure warning indicating that rear passenger side pressure was 6 psi below normal, checked the required pressure on the door jamb sticker and it says 45 psi for the rear and 36 psi for the front.

Checked all tires and I got the following,

Rear 31.5 psi driver side and 31 psi passenger side
Front 29.5 psi driver side and 30.5 psi passenger side

Anyhow I inflated the tires to the required pressure, but was disappointed about the accuracy of the warning message which I don't trust now when it comes to tire pressure, they were way off and I got the message late.
The weather started getting cooler in Vegas, and the tires are 20 inch, car is 15 911.1 GTS.

Also today it started showing a message to replace ignition key battery.

Any comments in this regards is appreciated.

Refer to the owners manual regarding tire pressures. The tire pressure shown on the door only shows maximum load pressures, and most owners use pressures less than that. As an example I run 30/36 in my 19" wheels, and I've selected the "comfort" setting in TPMS menu. The TPMS worked as intended. You didn't run on flat tires and it warned you that the pressure was low. TPMS doesn't replace a tire gauge.

45 PSI is probably a recommendation for the Autobahn. I have 20" wheels and personally run 33/35 F/R in comfort mode for spirited canyon carving. Once the tires are up to temp from driving on an 80 degree day they are around 36/39 F/R.

I recently had a similar problem. When I took my newish (2000+ miles) car out, I got a warning that my left rear tire was six pounds down. After driving for about ten minutes, I was told that it was now four pounds. And there it stayed until I got to my dealer.

They gave me a surprising diagnosis: The wheels which they had painted black for me had not been done correctly and had to be repainted to ensure a proper seal between the wheels and the bead of the tires.

f course, I left the car with them to redo the wheels. I'll pick it up tomorrow and hopefully this time it will be done properly.

My car also has the stock 19" wheels. The pressure has been at the higher lever but I have asked that they set them to the comfort level now.

How much off was the sensor from the real tire pressure?

I’ve checked my pressure with an accurate gauge and they’re spot on.

I give my dealership a "honey do list" every time I go in for oil changes. On that list are always two things:

1) do not wash
2) do not change tire pressures

I am glad I gave you the opportunity to remind us, I am sure you read the Manual, so what is the optimum pressure for best tire life?

Most of the other cars I owned refers to the driver door for tire pressure, I would assume Porsche is no difference, however it seems not from the responses I got.

I am no Porsche expert and this is the first one I own so bare with me please.

I have left the exact same standing instructions with my dealer.

Still remind them each visit to be sure...

It is a fair question. I started listening to the door. Until I tracked. The TPM had a hissy fit. First the pressures were way too high and I danced all over the shop. Kept letting them down and down and dance and down again and again.

What did I learn. IGNORE that Porsche call the setting comfort. Set it to comfort. Then let a lot of air out of your tyres. They have them far too over inflated. Comfort dead stone cold is 29/32. So I set to comfort and run +1 at 30/33.

That is the best for street. As soon as you hit the track, you will have to start lowering the. Image my shock when I drove on ice at the track the first time as I started at 40/44. By the time I danced into the pits I was at 50psi. That won't happen again. LOL I thought man I am really disappointed with the way this car handles on the track. Hahahaha. 17 pressure reductions later....Hello Porsche!!!

I took my car in for a check engine light issue. I had my tires perfectly inflated to comfort settings. I pick up the car, and they have the rears at 49psi and the fronts at 41psi. It was like driving on the rims. When I got my service survey, I suggested why don't you ask people if you want us to screw up your tire pressure. I guess some people don't pay attention and don't care but some of us do.
