Across the Porsche line, the GTS trim is the daily driver, but still okay to toss around in the canyons. It's way too soft for serious track use. For the occasional track weekend, still fun of course. I'll track anything, including airport rental Ford Focus. Anyway, a good starting point is to double the spring rates for track use on street tires; not Porsche specific, just a general rule of thumb in turning a street friendly car into more of a track car. Stepping up to R-comp track slicks, even higher spring rate. Of course, matching dampers required. Note that the GT Porsche cars have way more spring rate than the street friendly trims, in that 2x-3x range, as they are track focused.

So, what exactly would doubling the spring rate accomplish: a stiffer suspension, and stiffer ride? And that accomplishes what exactly: less compression of the suspension when cornering, so the suspension doesn't bottom out?

And yes i need new rotors. Those were brembo type 3. The pattern is almost gone.
Wow, how much run time did you get out of the rotors?

Much faster transients. Think jet fighter vs. Boeing 747. A visual reference. Granted, different generation Miatas, but you can tell the newer Miata is on an aftermarket track suspension setup that is much stiffer.

Half the original FM1000 and 3 sets of ME20 pads. Just over a year.

Going cheap, but just adding stiffer springs, without matching the valving will destroy your ride. Matching the valving and adding DSC module, my car is now more comfotable on the street with the higher 100 upfront than it was with the 75 up front. Stock is 33 up front for your info.

rear stock is a lot stiffer than others it is 108. GT3 is 120 and GT3-RS is 160.

I went for 150 in rear with the 75 in front. Now i run 100/150 wich is basiclaly GT3-RS 100/160

Video provides a great visual of the potential performance difference between a softer suspension and a firmer suspension, which I suppose is mostly related to the spring rates and dampers. Thanks.

Just a quick up date.

I’ve since torched two sets of Brembo GTS BBK’s. I now run the full nickel plated Brembo GT-R BBK with vented pistons and Hi Thermal (thicker) rotors.

Race Technologies RE10 pads.

I now run Manthey Racing spec stiff spring rates.

120 front and 170 rear, with stiffer tenders on rear.

With all I’ve learn’t about this beast over the last 6 years is you want 100min up front, no matter what.

100/140 street
100/150 both
100/160 with larger wing.

after all the ultimate street car is the 911 S/T and it runs 100/160.

991.2 GT3-RS
992 GT3
GT4-RS and now S/T all run 100/160.

Carrears are just setup far too soft.

My car as has the full Porsche aero kit. You just can’t see the front.

My 100/140s are sitting on my desk and getting installed next week!

This is the way. Porsche handling starts at 100 front spring rate.

So after reading through most of this I'm left wondering what is the best spring upgrade for a GTS with FAL? The DSC makes the S-PASM springs even softer feeling and definitely wanting more stiffness at the track. So is 100/140 too much for the PASM dampers? How far can I go reasonably? Sounds like FAL might need a different part number but H&R's site doesn't seem to differentiate.

And where are you sourcing springs only at random rates? Would love something stiffer without going too much lower.

On the stock SPASM dampers, you really don't want to go more than 100/140 - they're not going to last with stiffer springs. I wore out my rear OEM dampers after about 11k miles of mixed track and road with stock C2S SPASM springs. I opted to go all in and got the Tractive DDA suspension with 110/160 springs. I'm still tuning the DSC controller for track days ("Chassis Sport"), but my road setting ("Chassis Normal") is fantastic and to my mind is more comfortable and responsive than the OEM setup.

As to getting springs - TPC racing will sell you a spring kit + some other goodies for around $2200 if I recall correctly. I don't think they're on the website, but if you call Tom @ TPC racing, I think you can get them.

FAL takes up space. So a shorter spring would be warranted.

For example, I don’t have FAL and I run a 170mm spring.

If I wanted the same height with FAL, I’d most likely only need a 140mm length spring.

Ok you were right lol the 100/140 are great with the Tractives. Somehow the ride is better even with my old DSC file which has them a bit over damped at the moment. The car feels much sharper and lively. Still need them to settle a bit and then get it corner balanced and fully set up. I’ll get the DSC map sorted this weekend as well but that feels as though it will be easy as the front/rear ratio is nearly only a few points off. Just need to back off the compression and add a touch of rebound.

This is by far not too stiff for anyone thinking about spring rates.

thank you for sharing this info and thank you @jakermc for getting my car in on short notice.

Congrats. 100/140 is a great start. If 100% Street, then there is no need to go any further.

If tracking, there are those pesky GT’s to contend with that run 100/160. The extra in the rear is for there much larger rear wing.

EnzotCat is running 110/160 and I run 120/170.

I used to run full stiff mode with 100/150 on street. Its only now that I am 120/170, that I use the softer mode for street.

Its a testament to Tractive and DSC. Being able to run much higher rates and still be daily compliant.
