Adding backseats to a 991.1 GTS
Hi Rennlist
I'm looking to buy my first 911, and this dream just came a lot closer because I've sold my 2011 Gallardo today! :-)
I have a 2 year old son, and a wife so in order for me to use the car as much as possible i need the rearseats, otherwise I would have gone for the GT3 and the Touring Package is simply too expensive for me. So instead I've found a 2016 991.1 GTS Coupe which have only driven 6.000 km (~3.700 miles), it has everything I want;
Burmester
Carbon leather/alcantara seats (bucket)
GTS interior package
7-Speed Manual transmission
Carbon package
DAB radio
20" Turbo S wheel with center locking
GT Silver w/ black wheels
BUT!!! The car is spec'ed from factory without rearseats?? Can anyone confirm that it would be possible for me(a mechanic) to "reinstall" the rearseats? I guess what I'm really asking is if the mounting-points are really there under the "carpet" and also if I can mount the seatsbelts in the rear too. I've read that e.g. that in the GT3 it is not possible to fit the rearseats, so I'm really hoping it is possible for this GTS. Also, if it is possible, does anyone know if I can use the rear-seats from any 991 or if it has to be from a GTS? (I've already found a set from a 991.1 S Cab., will it work?)
Any guidance is really appreaciated, Thanks
Br Stefan

There is a bracket welded to the center tunnel on 991's equipped with rear seats. That bracket is not installed on GT3's and obviously not on your Euro 991. The bracket is the mounting point for the inboard ends of the seat backs. You would have to locate a P/N for the bracket, if it's even available, or remove one from a wrecked 991. It might be possible to fabricate a bracket, but then your children's safety could be dependent on how well you manufacture and install it. If I was doing this I would find a wrecked 991 and remove everything necessary for the add on.

I wish i didn't have the rear seats in my 991.2 Carrera S Endurance Racing Edition with X51, because i would much prefer the light weight floor carpet like in GT3's. Everyone is different...

Thank you, for all your reply's. I'm located in Denmark (just next to Germany), so the car is a EURO-spec, and the option-code (here in Europe atleast) to have the rear-seats removed is called 713 (removal of rearseats).
I think I will go to our Porsche dealer tomorrow and see if they know the part-numbers needed and the total cost of such project. Am I also correct that I need to check with seller that the installed carbon-bucket seats can indeed either slide forward enough to get in? or even better if they can forward-fold (sorry, is that the right word? I hope you understand what I mean).
Option B is that my dad-in-law has a big factory where he builds stuff in both metal and plastic, so if the mounting points for the bracket is present then he could probably work out something himself. Does anyone know if the seatbelt can be mounted easily?
Thanks!

Perhaps buy a harness bar from tpc racing and affix kids seats to it?

Seems like a lot of work to do. Why not just find the right car with a back seat? I realize that the empty spot in your garage is screaming at you but try to be patient. Your future-self will thank you.

I have been carrying my kids in different 911s for the last 10 years, always fun. Wait for the right car or order a S w/ X51 and other goodies. It's not the same as a GTS, but quite close. There's a gap between S and GTS, true, but not as wide as GTS-GT3.

If the car is being offered for sale by a Porsche dealer, ask them. Or, go to a Porsche dealer's service department and pose the question to them. You'll soon find out if it's worth the time, effort and money. Good luck to you.

The insurance part should be okay, but only if the oem mounting brackets can be used, if it's a DIY solution not using official parts then i'd guess is another story. I would need to take the car to an inspection after mounting the seats.
