Garage tile advice needed on installation
#16
I knew right after I posted that pic someone would comment on my creased Porsche flag.
That previous photo was from 2 years ago when I got my 911. I have moved a few things around in my garage since then and the Porsche flag is not as creased. Probably due to our heat and humidity.
The pic below was taken this morning.

Did you add some texture to the ceiling?

Yes, they do shrink and expand, mine will push right to the edge in the summer, and gap 1" on each side in the winter. So depending on the season you install it, allow for that. Mine is a three-bay so its going to expand/contract more than a single or a double because of the combined width. I have Racedeck going on three years old now. I don't worry about the gaps, its a garage. If you get them too tight and there is no expansion, the floor WILL buckle to accommodate the movement.

OP, It's a breeze to do yourself like people are saying, and you don't need to clear the whole garage out to do it. Move stuff up one end/side, lay the tiles, move stuff over onto the the tiled part, etc. An electric jigsaw cuts through like butter. don't forget to get the ramp strips for finishing the front opening.

I’ll add one thing re. temperature related expansion.... I allowed 1/2-3/4” all the way around for RaceDeck. My tiles haven’t had any problems during the hottest of Texas days this summer....until....I open my single and double doors that face west (not seen in pic) and the sun makes its way into afternoon angles. The direct sunlight bumps the temp enough that it expands and actually buckles until it cools. Leave the doors closed, doesn’t happen.
I guess my my point is, it’s significant and I’m probably going to pull edges up and trim them this winter to an inch, since I didn’t account for the direct sunlight. Operator error.
Otherwise I absolutely love the stuff!

Hi Mark.
I know this is an old post but I'm reaching out in hopes you can tell me what color gray you uised on the walls? Your garage and color scheme look amazing! Thanks!

Hi Tony,
I used GarageDeck from www.bigfloors.com. GarageDeck was less money than RaceDeck and I could tell no difference in quality. I installed it in a three car garage about 7 years ago and could not be more pleased with it. It is by far one of the best things I have ever done to my house. I bought a saw blade made for cutting plastic and my friend came over with his table saw and we finished the install over a weekend. We left a 1/2" gap all around the walls and so far have had no issues. I did not cover the gaps with any trim, you hardly notice the 1/2" gap. It is a floating floor and mine has not moved in 7 years. The part of the floor that is slightly raised in the photo below is my storm shelter and I have no problems with the 911 or my wife's 718 Cayman parking on top of it.
