No it's def not just you. Like all things technology + Porsche, it's total crap. My 3 year old BMW looks like a 4K display in visual surround sound by comparison.

If you think the Porsche is bad, you should check out the back up cameras Lamborghini uses. The one in my Huracan was absolutely disgusting, the Porsche is miles better if you can believe it.

Well if anyone has any hookups with people in the business, you can count me in for a lens retrofit. Its already wired so, I imagine that all that it needs to be "clearer" is a new lens.
It looks like a standard round lens, nothing so custom about the design..

I agree. I can't believe there is so much hate/anger over a back-up camera. Unbelievable.

A higher-resolution camera only helps if the display screen has enough pixels to display that resolution. It appears that the PCM display itself only has 800x480 resolution, so higher resolution on the camera won't improve anything. There does appear to room for improvement in the clarity of the image that is there though... it does seem a little muddled... mostly what's called a bloom effect. Its not a big deal to me though. It may be a result of getting a camera that works well in very low light too.

As for the fish-eye lens, that is there so that you can see children near the car to the side, objects toward the bottom of the car, or traffic coming from the side when trying to back out into a traffic lane. That is at least half of the reason you want a camera back there, to see stuff in your blind spots. Fish eye help with that a lot. Seeing detail at a distance isn't really important so a more zoomed (less wide-angle) lens doesn't really pay off from a safety point of view.

i'm ok with the blurriness. my issue is the inaccuracy. For example the yellow lines show me on the grass while i'm a good 6 inches from the grass. same with curbs. it seems like it needs to be re-calibrated

it does the job fine for me. Drove cars for 20 years without backup cameras or proximity sensors, just knowing if something or someone is there while backing up is frankly good enough for me.

i'm ok with it. i'm just coming from a 2019 bmw x5 that had surround view and crystal clear cameras. my issue is simply the inaccuracy. i'm backing into a spot and the yellow lines show me on the curb, when in reality i'm far from the curb.

It's better than nothing, however they are very disappointing. The "fish-eye" type view is horrible. The ones on our Toyota's are 100% better.

This is interesting. I haven’t really thought about it, or even noticed it being that bad. Typically I use my mirrors more, habit, but have used the screen and didn’t feel ripped off as everyone describes.

I put this on a popsicle stick and duct taped it to my spoiler. The camera is good enough.

I wouldn't say ripped off. Just comparing the quality, functionality, and capability from the end user perspective, imo it compares poorly to other brands. Having said that, they know what's out there and have there reason.

while they had the back bumper off to install the laser jammers, I thought why not? It was only $1K 😀😀😀
