Black inserts on Carrera T steering wheel?
I feel like I've seen one of you Carrera T owners that changed their steering wheel inserts to black. I'd like to do this and was looking for the post, but just can't find it. The parts are available from Suncoast now and the price isn't crazy high so I thought I'd give it a try. But I'm not sure if it's a DIY job or not. If anyone has done this, could you post some input?
I did find this older related thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1028...l-inserts.html Parts: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU718SWT.html https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU718LSW.html |
I'm interested in doing this as well. T
he silver inserts on my '16 991.1 GTS are horrible. What was Porsche thinking? They should have been black to begin with. |
911-tour got this going on his T. Discussion / pics here.
Some debate whether this is a dealer only upgrade, on account of the airbag disabling process/concerns. https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1049624-landed-carrera-t-pics-10.html#post14835417 |

Here's another shot that makes me want to make the change: https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...7f99b57f30.jpg |

Yes, thank you!! I couldn't for the life of me remember where I'd seen that.

Okay...let me just say...I was the guy that went out and tried to unscrew those inserts...I have the 2018 Targa GTS...and let me warn you now...they are NOT screws...they are bolts...and you can't get to the bolts without disassembling the steering wheel...needless to say, I didn't swap mine out. I am now subscribed, so still interested in how this goes. If anyone wants to know what the dealership charged me to "break down" the steering wheel and fish out that bolt, just PM me.

Yes, your older post was what gave me concern, for sure. It looks like it would be something simple but I guess it's not. We'll see if anyone else has input, but I'll probably buy the parts and hang onto them until my car is in for service some time and let a tech do it.

Good to know, I'll do what I can to avoid that. Sorry you had to take one for the team on that one.

Meh - I had just retired...was looking for something to do for a day...I really did think it was going to be a quick and easy swap.

$500 to find and remove screw -- sounds like you're the one that got screwed . . .

I've done mine but not DIY. You could potentially do the DIY if you have the right tool. And yes, the job is ALL that easy. You do need to remove the steering wheel, disassemble the whole back piece of the trims (T is in black already) to get the 3 pieces.
I would check with your Indy shop that have experience with removing steering wheel. They should have the knowledge of replacing the trims. |
