Default GIAC tune for 991.1 S - Opinions

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I attended an event organized by my local Porsche dealer about the GIAC tune and performance upgrade. They showed how can you replace the stock exhaust and other components plus a tune. I was able to test drive a 991.2 with all the upgrades they offer and the car felt really good, no lag at all, great sound, a lot of torque. I took a picture of the tune sheet and the cost (see attachment).

They did a raffle of one free tune and I won. I currently own a 2012 991.1 C2S with 16k miles. No modifications, everything stock.

I was wondering if any of you has done this tune and your opinion about it. Is it worth it? Any downside? I guess I can always revert it back to stock in case I don't like it. I don't track the car, nor I plan to do it.

Thank you.

I test drove a car with the tune and liked it; however, it was only a 30 minute drive. Since it is free I would do it.

You car is an NA car. A tune on a NA car is just not worth it. Turbo cars are best suited for tunes and the gains are very good. I do feel though that Cobb offers the best most versatile tune for Porsche turbo cars.

Worth it? Is a FREE tune. OP I have a GIAC tune on my 1.4s and I would do it again. Gains are not huge but are there.

Sorry I'm a distracted reader, didn't see you won the tune. In that case go for it.

The biggest difference in the tune on the 991.1 cars isn't so much the peak but the mid range. Specifically, there is a severe dip when the car comes on cam @~4500rpm that you can see clear as day on a dyno and feel easily. This is smoothed out a lot and eliminating this dip in power makes a bigger difference that a dyne chart would suggest.

I've seen his verified with Cobb and FVD but not GIAC but it's probably not too different.

Dang that's awesome! I've been thinking about tuning my .1 S as well.. just a little disheartening seeing the .2 S turbo gains Let me know how it works out, for free, it's a no brainer.

@alainpp why not pull the trigger? Drive it for a couple of weeks if you're not in love, swap back to the stock map.

Any feedback from members that actually have this tune installed? Im curious to know if there is a noticeable actual change to the driver experience. I have a 991.1S and have been debating whether the gains were worth the price? Also whether Cobb or GIAC had a better MAP?

Just a thought - could you sell the “free tune” to a 991.2 owner?

use the $$$ for some other items?

Please do it, then report back your thoughts and impressions for others with .1 S models
As others have said, a tune on a NA car isn't going to yield much, but I've heard throttle response alone is worth it. I've been debating tuning my 991.1 S for a while, but not many reviews/ impressions out there to make me do it. I doubt the cost justifies the gains in our NA motors, but if yours is free, I think its a no brainer.

9914s, thank you for the feedback. I have an appointment this week with the dealer and I will ask some questions. I understand that 15HP on top of 400 is not much, but I would like to see what difference 15 more torque would make.

I will keep you guys updated if I decide to pull the trigger.

I second..I would sell this tune to a Turbo or 991.2 owner, you will get a lot more for it and could use that 1k+ on other car things

free tune, nothing wrong or downside with that. But if I had to pay I would pass. $100 per HP added.... too much for my wallet.
