Background: First Porsche I bought was a Cayman S back in 2007. Amazing car but also a problem child that visited the service bay a lot. After I came off warranty, I did a short stint in an Audi S5 before ordering my first 911, an aqua blue 991.1 4S which I loved and held 5 1/2 years...longer than any previous car. I finally broke down and ordered a 991.2. Was really excited to add full leather and I really like how the new cars drive in the 30-40 mph range: quick to kick down and gives you some zip.
Car ordered: April 12
Estimated Completion: July 20 (little over three months)
Actual Completion: July 17
Arrival at Atlanta dealership (via port of Jacksonville): August 14th (18 weeks / 4 months from order)
Pretty smooth sailing at the dealership. Given I just came out of a 991.1, I didn't think I'd be so excited but I was and I was nervous driving it off the lot.
Made the mistake of starting with 70% isopropyl and wasted about an hour before I realized I wasn't working with 91%. Went much quicker after that! Am thinking about replacing with leather visors.
Wheels:
1. Removed wheels, cleaned and clay barred.
2. Applied Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Wheel Coating.
95% of the work is spent on #1. #2 is quick and easy.
Paint:
1. Washed and clay barred the paint. I've done this step on prior new cars, but was still shocked at how much the clay bar picked up.
2. I also wiped down with isopropyl (50%/50% mix with water) just to ensure I go anything else that may have been on the paint.
3. Applied Ammo Reflex Foundation Coat.
All the work is in step #1 and #2.
Just FYI: I generally pick products that are extremely easy to go on and look great, so if you are curious why I used what I did, there you have it.
Beautiful car! I didn't realize how great this color looked until I drove a carmine red Panamera loaner. I personally think it's one of those colors that are overlooked, but once you see it in person it is to be admired:-) I hope to see it at a future PCA event too!
