Yesterday I had my 991 C2 serviced, and the shop pointed out that the rear brake pads were too small and not grabbing the entire rotor (as evidenced by the rusted area at the center of the rotor). I had the pads and rotors done 2 years ago by a different shop and they haven't been touched since. Before going back to the shop that did the brakes, I wanted to see if anyone else has a similar wear pattern on their rear rotors or if the wrong brake pad explanation makes sense. Even though I'm well past the warranty period, if the previous shop used the wrong parts to begin with I am of the view they should fix their mistake.

The rear brake pads and discs are smaller on a base carrera than a Carrera S. They look normal to me despite but the past do not grab closer to the rotor hat.
surface wear pattern definitely different compared to my S... but as awrryan mentioned base model does use smaller brake components. Doesn't explain the wear though... unless those are S rotors with base calipers...?
I believe both the 991 base and S use 330 rear rotors. (as does the 997.2)
would have to go back to the 997.1 to get something smaller
991 Base and S use same size rear rotors; however, the surface area of the disc on the base Carrera is smaller than the surface area of a disc on a Carrera S. Also, the pads on the Carrera S are larger to accommodate for the larger surface area on the S rotor even though the rotor on both the S and Base are same size. I know this for a fact since i replaced the rear brakes on my base 991.1 with rear brakes from a 991.1 S which fit perfectly. Only difference between rear caliper on base and S is the color (S is painted red). This is fact, not speculation.

Thanks! I was wondering how some are able to do that.
