it will be going into dealer Friday. They are aware of the problem so I will keep all updated as will be putting a lot of miles on in next 4 weeks. I can say this, I will now be checking the pump area underneath before and after each drive similar to a preflight.

Congrats on on the new ‘19 GTS! Enjoying my 18 C4S immensely even with this issue!

Thoughts?
Any visible dripping of the reddish fluid to floor or are you starting to see stained areas in vicinity? Either way I would get it in line for check.

I didn't see any coolant leaking yet, just the dried up spots you see in the photos.

My 2017 C2S at 12K miles also develops coolant leak.
At Idle I also noticed some rumbling sound from engine area that could be the water pump. Taking her in later this week and let’s see what happens.

Could be connecting o-ring. Common problem for 991.2. If you hear wired sound, could be regulator.

Anyone know how difficult is to replace the water pump and how much the part costs? Its it easily accessibly from under the car?

That doesn't look like anything is amiss. Those are just water spots. Coolant leak residue will be redish/whiteish as seen in an the earlier post. I check mine every week and so far no problems at 3200 miles.

My car only leaked coolant on the floor one time. After a cold start in which the car was moved a few feet and promptly shut off. After normal driving where the engine was allowed to get up to normal temperature there was never any coolant seen on the garage floor.

Cool My own coolant leak issue

Isn't Rennlist great?? Did a thread search and found this thread. Our 2017 991.2 has close to 20,000 miles. After using it for a PCA local chapter event on Sunday (putting about 100 miles on the clock) I came home and parked the car. Monday AM I noticed a 3-4" diameter puddle of coolant under the rear of the engine. No warnings at all, and the tank was still pretty full. Drove to the local dealer. Report today: water pump leak. I expressed concern and asked "how common?" Reply: not common but not rare either. Honestly, I've had more than a few cars with water pump leaks, but always around 60,000 or more miles. Wish me the best.

Good luck. Hopefully still under warranty?

I collected my new Carrera T in April 2018. Now on about 20,650 miles. I get the Porsche Centre to visually check my water pump each time my car is in (tyre swap, service etc) and so far, so good...

It didn't register with me where to look for the tell-tale leak signs, other than the garage floor. Thanks to those posting the pics, so easy to check now.

Just had my car's (2017 991.2) water pump replaced, about 12K mi. I had just bought it (used) from a non-Porsche BMW dealer. During pre-delivery inspection (car on a lift) I saw no evidence of coolant leaks, but after a 20 mi trip home and some local short trips, began seeing small puddles on the garage floor. It was Rennlist posts that got me looking for those puddles in the first place, so yeah, Rennlist and members here are great. But I think the dealerships (and Porsche in general) are greatly downplaying the frequency of this failure, and the serious nature of it. Some have reported catastrophic loss of coolant resulting in further damage. I have had water pumps leak on my BMWs in the past and there was never an emergency repair required. They just slowly began leaking gradually that increased in magnitude over many miles. Not this Porsche leak. I was told NOT to try to drive the 80 mi to the dealership, but have the car transported immediately. The leakage went from a few drops to pissing out in the span of a few days and only a few miles. As the car was being loaded on the transporter, its was really pouring out. It remains to be seen if the replacement pumps solve the issue, and Porsche is being very tight lipped as to the root cause of the failures in the first place.

Default 2020 one week old 992 coolant leak

One week and less than 250 miles the water pump on my 2020 992 is leaking. In fact, there was a bit of smoke coming from the engine compartment when I got home after the 45 mile drive from the dealer when I picked up the car. I figured this was normal and just a “new car burn off.” Guess I was wrong. My service rep said he has seen this before beginning with the 2017 991.2 which is the same motor/water pump combo. For those with experience dealing with this issue, has the fix solved this?

Water pump failure on my 991.2 occurred at 1,600 miles. Dealer replaced water pump and I've had no issues with approximately 4,000 miles since repair. I keep the car on a lift and monitored regularly after repair. Sorry to hear you're having this issue too.
