Default Engine sound in gear vs neutral

Probably a stupid question... Just noticed this as I have been mostly driving with the windows up. Today I had the window cracked a bit pulling into the garage after a 60 min drive, and noticed the engine makes a low vibrating sound when in gear (with the clutch depressed) vs much more quiet in neutral with no vibration. Reproducible in and out of gear with the clutch depressed. Doesnt sound messed up just was surprised to hear a change. Assuming normal, right?
