Default Disable high beam assistant

Scoured the search & manual to no avail, and went through all the PCM settings.. nada. The only option I have in the PCM for exterior lighting is the delay function. ('16 991 w/ LED)

The high beam assistant is so far my only gripe about the car.. street signs reflect enough light to turn my highs on and off constantly.

Anyone know how to disable the assist? I have enough wherewithal to dim my beams for oncoming traffic.

Don't turn it on with the left side high beam steering wheel stalk. Or, don't have the main switch for your headlights in the "auto" setting. So, that gives you two ways to defeat the feature.

@LexVan thanks for the quick help. I hadn't tried to see if they'd stay on with the main lights in manual. You said don't use the left side stalk.. how would one turn the highs on otherwise?

If you use the main headlight switch manually, the high beams work as expected. No high beam assist can be activated.

If you leave the main switch in auto, the high beam assist is only activated by pushing the stalk once forward. Done. But you don't like the feature. Just don't push the stalk forward, only pull and hold back.

@LexVan thanks again- pushing the stalk forward for on is an old habit from the 993.

I'll give it a shot, and thanks again.

If the green icon with the letter "A" comes on your dash, you have activated high beam assist. Best way to bypass that feature is to keep your headlight main switch in the manual on/off position, and not use the "auto" setting.

For some reason the 991.1 online manual doesn't seem to call out the toggle to disable that.

Activating/Deactivating High Beam Assist:
1. Main menu: select
"Vehicle"
>"Settings"
>"Light & Visibility"
>"Exterior Lights"
2. Select "Hi. beam assist."
3. Toggle your selection.

Just to throw it out there, I personally have this feature on my other cars and don't like it. It doesn't work that well as mentioned here.

Lane keep assist, self steering, and other autonomous features don't work that well today. Most implementations of adaptive cruise control/ auto braking don't work well either. I personally turn it all off and take control.

ACC works incredibly well on the 991. Far, far better than on my GMC Yukon XL Denali. I use it all the time on the highway.
