991.2 GTS V 4 GTS
Anyone have any experience of driving both these models and give insight to the handling differences ?
I have test driven the Carrera gts in 2 wheel drive format but have not tried the 4 wheel drive variant and a nice 4 gts is up for sale
I wanted to know if there was much noticeable difference in the way the 2 cars drive and especially round the corners ?

I havent driven the 2WD GTS but I have a 4 GTS and did a back-to-back outing of a C2S and C4S on a handling circuit before I made the 2/4 decision.
The impression I came away with was that the 2 was a little lighter on the front end and a bit more darty but the 4 gave you the feeling of being pulled out of the corner and you could get on the beans just a little bit earlier. This was in the dry - Id have been very interested to see how they compared on a damp/wet track.
The 2 has superb traction but as I live on a soggy island replete with greasy roundabouts, the lure of 4WD was just too much. I dont think you can go wrong with either. If you like corners, RAS is a must, though.
Ive heard it said that you lose a bit of the adjustability (fun?) in a Carrera with 4WD but with 450hp mostly going to the rear unless traction is an issue, I cant say Ive found that - theres enough power/torque to get sideways in Sport/Sport+, even with all the wheels being driven.

I live in AZ with beautiful clean fresh roads. Nice and dry.
Purchased the RWD variant. If I had to do it again I'd go with the 4GTS simply because I'm into tuning and performance modifications. I only have bolt ons and can spin the crap out of my rear end sometimes. 911's aren't meant to spin.
If you plan to go 500+hp go with the 4!

Thanks for the reply Ed and insight
very useful feedback
yes I have driven the 2 GTS with rear wheel steer and found it brilliant .
The particular 4 GTS I am looking at has RWS and PDCC so should be great in the handling department
It also has ceramic brakes

The 4 is so planted its crazy. Have to really work hard to get it to break loose. That being said, its a rocket out of a turn, so much fun.
Cant go wrong with either, I personally like the planted feeling of the 4 and like the extra utility when the road conditions are slick or snowy.

I have not driven a 2, but I love my 4 GTS coupe. I did PEC delivery in Atlanta and drove a 4 GTS Targa there. On the wet skid pad, I was able to drift the car a full 360 degrees so you can get sideways even with a 4 if you try hard enough ;-).
On the road, I have driven through some terrible rain storms (like you can't see the road because the rain is so heavy). The 4 is just completely stable and unflappable even in these conditions. With RWS, PDCC and carbon brakes, the car is incredibly nimble and fun.
Hope this helps.

I drove the 4GTS in Germany. The thing I did not like about the 4, is when you make a U turn and plant it. It pulls on the wheel. The 4 in Germany was also a soft top, so I never really liked the feel.
Then I did the First Porsche drive course. I drove a 4 Coupe and a 2 Soft top. I can tell you the soft tops are for soft c... LOL
I bought the 2 Coup. It has the best steering feel. The only reason you would get the 4, is if you have 4 Seasons LOL. That sounds funny, but here, its basically summer 9 months of the year. I am 50 and have never seen snow. I think it is a Hollywood myth. Softops have soft chasis. Neither felt as good as the coup. 2 has superior steering feel. 4 better for snow and winter.
Nino, you need MPSC2 : ) I will have some soon. COBB approaches : )

They will both be fantastic. I opted for the RWD to save some weight, because I don't really drive my car much in bad weather. If you're going to be driving it in the rain or worse, the AWD is definitely going to be nice. I can barely break traction in my RWD tuned GTS in the dry, but in the wet I have to be very careful. In an AWD car you could floor it in a torrential downpour and you'd be fine.
They'll both be amazing cars, it just depends on your needs. If you don't need AWD you might as well save some money and weight, otherwise it's definitely nice to have.

I’ve owned both. The 4 is glued to the road, it’s a rediculous level of grip. At least to me with the 2, you feel the rear bias a little more, which is why I went back to the 2.

Race Car
The difference in weight can be felt from a stop and when rolling and the rear bias in the 2 gives ti (to me anyway) a "sportier" feel. The 4 feels "heavier" to steer but more secure in general and in particular when the road is wet and when at the limit in the dry.

Awesome thanks guys
so I have just returned from the test drive of the 4 GTS
it was only a short short drive but the car felt super secure and the only thing I noticed is the ceramic brakes were very sensitive and sharp
