Finally.....Porsche offers a HUD
OK, it's in the 2019 Cayenne E-Hybrid, but it's sure to trickle down to the 911.
If you've never driven a car with one....you probably think it's a gimmick and just think "meh....."
However, if you've driven a modern car with one (e.g. M3), you know they're great. Tachometer floating above your hood so eyes can stay completely focused on the road. It's also nice to have Nav info in the HUD when navigating through unfamiliar traffic-heavy city streets. Much safer than looking over at the PCM.

Yeah....same for me on my Bimmer....just had to get a different set of shades for my car. Although the first time I drove with polarized glasses I thought something was seriously wrong with my HUD, then I remembered posts about it on bimmerpost.

Wife's Range Rover perfectly visible with polarized glasses. Come on Bavaria catch up!

Cadillac’s hud is stunning full color and zero issues with polarized glasses. Don’t understand why other manufacturers can’t do the same!

I had HUD on my BMW. My two Porsche’s after it obviously don’t have it. I liked it, but don’t miss it. Then again, I had keyless entry on 3 straight cars then not in my succeeding Porsche’s either. That stuff doesn’t matter much to me, but HUD is pretty useful to have if included.

Hud has been on cars for many years. Wonder why it takes so long for Porsche to get certain things done. Porsche sure is a laggard as far as electronic ingenuity is concerned. When Porsche came out with its new PCM with the 991 series, it was already behind the times.

I doubt the window is too sloped for a HUD in the 911 - Corvettes have had HUDs since the C5 (which came out over 21 years ago - yikes, where did the time go!)
I had HUDs in my previous Corvette and also in my wife's current 2018 Yukon XL Denali. I generally like the HUD but agree that they get washed out with polarized sun glasses. With the big tach in front of you and a very readable digital speedometer (not to mention the configurable LED screen next to the tach), I'm not really sold on the need for one in the 911. A nice to have but not essential.

I remember reading an article about this and the Porsche Engineer said that they didn't want the extra weight that's required for HUD. I believe he said the system itself and the heavier windshield glass added 25lbs or something like that.

And polarized glasses work when polarized in the right direction.

Also, So where does one buy these unicorn polarized glasses? I've had Maui Jim, Costa, Revo, Smith, Oakley. None work with HUD. Yet Caddy's HUD is 100% clear.
