Default How water-tight are the Targa's roof seals?

As the title asks, how water-tight are the Targa's roof seals? I am specifically asking about three areas: 1.) where the removable top meets the A-pillar/Windshield frame, 2.) where the removable top meets the sliding glass contraption, and 3.) where the sliding glass contraption meets the rear body panels. Have any Targa owners tried taking their car through touch-less car washes? Touch-less car washes are a pretty good approximation of high speed driving in the rain; if the Targa is water-tight after a visit to a touch-less car wash, it should hold up in a rain storm.

Thanks in advance to all who post.

I dont know for sure but would be pretty surprised of Porsche didnt design it to take just about anything you can throw at it beyond submerging the car in water.

I've never taken the Targa to a car wash, only hand wash, but I've driven through some storms and never had a drop leak into the cabin.

Fits like a glove. No leaks, no drips, no nothing. Driven through major storms and taken through touchless car wash multiple times. As tight as tight can be. Would you not expect this from Porsche?

No issues at all with the top leaking....or any other issues with it for that matter.

Thanks for the replies. The Targa's top mechanism has a lot of moving pieces. Nice to learn that they all work together to seal out adverse weather.

Last time I swung by the dealer and was out back chatting with the techs I noticed a Targa S in the bay with all the interior taken out and wiring harnesses exposed. I asked them what was up? They said owner leaves it parked outside and a torrential downpour we had the week prior soaked the interior even though the Targa Top was secured shut. He advised me that he had seen this numerous times (we get a lot of rain in FL) and told me to never buy one.

But I'm not a Targa owner, so I can't personally vouch for the accuracy. I was actually kind of surprised since I couldn't recall anyone on Rennlist complaining about it. Just figured I'd throw it out there.

Interesting. I'm inclined to think the owner forgot to mention that he left a window open.

It might have had defective seals. In another life, I used to own a BMW 3-Series convertible with the removable hard top that folds up and stows in the trunk. That car's top leaked like a sieve in the slightest rain storm. 4 failed repair attempts later, and BMW repurchased the car as a lemon.

I would be curious to get feedback from other FL-based Targa-owning RLers.

Yeah, I thought it might have been the only one and it was a defect, but they said it was the second time dealing with this car and they had seen it on other non-garage-parked Targas. Maybe a bad grouping of cars (supplier provided a batch of bad seals, new guy in the factory and that was his first week on Targa tops)?

Best case is bad seals. Worst case is manufacturing defect. My 3-series was a manufacturing defect. The shop foreman replaced the seals and aligned the top four times to no avail. After the 4th failed repair, it was time for BMW to repurchase the car.

I have had my Targa for 10 months now, and don't have a garage (live in NoVA)...we have had some pretty bad rains this year and I have yet to see any issues with the top leaking (I hope I just didn't jinx myself). I have owned (almost exclusively) convertibles from the time I started driving, and some of the same models more than once...The ONLY one that consistently leaked (hardtop) was my '08 & '13 Rubicon's. I certainly hope Porsche has it figured out, because this P-car is the most fun I have ever had sitting down...

No issues since delivery Jan this year including recent 2+ weeks torrential rain here in SE FL
Vehicle is parked at work outside during day and garaged at home/night
