I really hope that's a joke..

As for me, I just let the idle come down and then drive it easy until temps get up.
Agree, bad idea to let a car sit and idle for a long period, carbon build up no bueno on direct injection cars.

I start my car and put it in S+ right off the bat. Get engine temp up to 140ish and then casually hit the road. Spirited driving begins once the engine and oil is at normal operating temp.

What about reaching optimal tire temperature for road adhesion?

Engine LOAD is far mode important to moderate during warm-up than is rpm. Or, IOWs, flooring a cold engine from idle to 4k rpm is worse than going to redline at 1/4-throttle, though both should be avoided.

Thank you!

Guys - so for my 991.1 manual, if I start up, buckle up, wait 30 seconds, move off and keep revs and speed down until both oil and water temps are good, all will be well?

This and moderate acceleration (i.e. “load”, “throttle”, etc.)

There’s no point in “waiting” but if it takes you 30 seconds to a minute after start to get everything situated (e.g. sunglasses, belt, music, etc) it’s fine.

I have heated garage flooring and heated blankets wrapped around each tire in the garage. It does drive my home electric bill up, but as you note, what good is a fully warmed up engine if your tires are cold?

When I lived in North Dakota I had an engine block heater on my cars due to the extreme cold. You'd plug your car in at night so your oil stayed warm. Without it, cars parked outside would not start/not start easily. Anyone know of a good source for a 991 engine block heater? The dealer doesn't carry them and the guys at AutoZone scratched their heads as well. If I had this, I wouldn't have to let the car idle for so long to get the temp up.

Living in Ontario I had the exact same issues but found the blankets were simply too weak so I purchased 4 Dyson AM09 heaters (I have 20" wheels) and attached them to the garage floor at the optimum distance from each wheel and simply left them on overnight.

Works like a charm and on snow days the tires clear a path right to the asphalt.

I took a look: https://www.dyson.com/fans-and-heate...ck-nickel.html

Those things are sweet. Please confirm that due to the strength of those heaters, you somehow bolted them to the floor for safety as well as not to be accidentally shifted and damage the paint on your car. This has potential for an upcoming Panorama/Excellence magazine.

Custom frame made for each unit and bolted to foundation.

When it comes to Dyson there is no substitute.

I've spent some time in Canada...always impressed with the industriousness and brilliance of our neighbors to the north. Reward yourself with a nice Elsinore.
