First Oil Change $245

Count me as weird, too. And I have a core belief that nobody really owns a car until they have done some serious work on it--and waxing does not count.

Well minus oil, parts and whatever tools and diagnostic devices you need that is. And just how much $250 means to people with 100k cars. Some can both spend the $250 and still have lots of fun.

I did the initial break in oil change myself last year at about 2k miles (no, I'm not trying to stir up that debate). I didn't bother resetting the oil change indicator. I have an appointment tomorrow for the first annual service so I'll have them change the oil, reset the oil change notification, and perform any updates that are due on the car (and I understand there's some sort of gauge cluster update). While I'm fully capable of doing the oil change myself, I think it's prudent to have the dealer do the updates that are recommended and to just give the car a once-over. It's a small price to pay for a car that isn't $100k, but well over $150k.
This seems like a pretty reasonable approach to me.

I agree 100% with this. While I don't count an oil change as serious work, I loved putting my own exhaust on the car - let me get up into the guys of it and see how Porsche built it. Amazing rear suspension components for example - but also some pretty cheap-*** VW-style production techniques evident that I didn't see on my Aston Martin for example. Had my Harley Road Glide all apart this past weekend installing upgraded speakers and amp into it - first time I have pulled the fairing and delved into the electronics. Gave me a real knowledge of how they run the main wiring harnesses, light modules and their locations, etc. I enjoy working on my own stuff - its relaxing, can be challenging, and when something breaks 200 miles into the mountains and out of cell phone range to call anyone, I have better than 50/50 chance of getting it back on the road again.
