I’ve learned not to let swirls bother me. It’s taken 20 years of therapy to get to this point and I’m proud of the progress I’ve made. Black cars can be perfect, but only briefly. For the OCD, full PPF is required.

lol

I think I may be able to tolerate them. I rented a 991 the other day - black - and the paint was terrible. I'm not sure if it had ever been hand washed, let alone hand washed properly, and I still thought the car looked amazing. Then again I didn't fork over high 5 figures for it...

I’ve had a handful of black cars and told myself never again. Then I found my (higher) mileage 991.2 that just happened to be Jet Black Metallic and well, I fell in love.

Do I stress it? Nope. Did I get it corrected, PPFed and ceramic coated? Yes. Is it easy to wash, yes. But it almost never looks dirty from where I’m sitting, so I don’t much care.

I bought it to drive the wheels off of it, not have it look like it’s never driven.

Black is not a color but rather an occupation

I dunno what you guys see in black. It looks like a boring color that belongs on a SUV or sedan to me. I guess everybody has different tastes but why not get a sports car with some color to it.

PITA. Yes, looks great when it's clean but it doesn't stay that way long. Plus I feel like 50% of 911s are black which is why I avoided it.

It’s not so much that black is a terrible colour for a 911 (apart from looking very 1980s) but that there are much more interesting ones available that are also easier to care for. Combined with a black interior it is just a bit much and gives the impression of a very sporty hearse. Add privacy glass and smoked headlights...

Yes but its free.... If you get it, dont pay extra money for the metallic black. Pay for the ppf afterwards.

I agree! There are way too many black, gray and silver 911's out there. I've had both lapis and sapphire blue 911's and they both get compliments on the color very frequently.. I also don't understand why so many people want to be the same.

I have a black Tesla MS and had a black GT4. Both are awesome. I had them coated with Opticoat ProPlus and then wiped them down regularly with a no-water car wash. Easy and quick.

Have no fear - black is terrific.

Black is stunning when clean
To be stunning, it must be cleaned very often
Cleaning very often increases the incidence of swirls
Very careful cleaning will reduce the swirl effect
Wrapping and ceramic coatings will help with swirl effect
Black is stunning when clean

Personally, I will never again buy a black car

2016 Spyder with classic red interior
Absolute black is best. The metallic black looks grey in the sun. The absolute black is so deep and rich. Its beautiful to detail and very satisfying. Get an interior that pops!
