So today I arrived at a Marriott in Birmingham Alabama and was thinking of this thread. I almost always valet my 911 and Boxster but today since I wasn't with my wife, I asked the very young valet if I could park it myself.
He looked at me with utter relief and said "thank you!, I saw it was a stick and I only know how to drive them in first gear"
Holy ****!

Good catch. I had taken so many pics only in the garage of all the awesome Porsche, I forgot he/she had a tag. I was jealous how much room he had. Parking envy got the best of me!

I never, ever valet. I would offer a good tip to just let me park the car myself. If that does not work, I take my business elsewhere.
The ONLY time I caved in due to pressure from my wife (we were meeting with two other couples at the restaurant) I left my car to the valet, only to come back and find a nice scrape on the front bumper. And the IDIOT had the nerve to tell me it was like that when he got it.
As luck would have it, I had just detailed my car that day, and took pictures just before going out to dinner. They had no option but to pay.
Since then, never again, under ANY circumstances. Rather park somewhere else and Uber or walk to the place.

I've been to a couple of events where they offer valet service, but my 997 is still new to me and I'm nervous about anyone else driving the car. Also, how many valets these days know how to drive a manual? Hehe...
