Like I said, none of the options are really a "must have." You would probably be very happy with a GTS (which already comes nicely equipped) with few options.

True words!! The only option I would get, besides the free ones, is auto dimming mirror. Remember there are 991.1 GT3's for sale in the $120k range

I actually found a really clean 991.1 GT3 with 33k miles for 118K. Full clear wrap, front axle lift, extended fuel range, etc. Pretty basic, but enough for what I'd want.

The GTS already has the important performance items. The only deal breaker for me personally would be having a MT. I'd take a .2 MT over a .1 PDK any day, and that is with my substantial preference to the 3.8.

Ultimately, you'll be spoiled regardless!!

Yeah, this GTS I'm looking at is a 7 speed manual. It seems like, for long term value, the manual will probably hold up better also. Finding GTS with manual trans for sale seems nearly impossible.

Also, side note, I'm buying this car to take to Japan with me at the end of the year. Porsches (newer ones) sell for considerably more there than they do here.

So really the dilemma is....

2015 GT3 in GT silver with 33K miles for 118K

Or

2018 GTS in Chalk with MT for 125K

this isn’t really a dilemma. If you don’t get the GT3 you will regret it and you will end up selling the GTS at a significant loss and get a GT3 (like I did).

If you don’t like the GT3 you won’t lose much or possibly any money on it (might even make money depending on your purchase price), if you change your mind on the GTS be prepared to take a bath.

I traded in a 2016 991.1 GTS for a 991.2 GT3 and the biggest thing that i did not get on the GTS that i wish it had and ordered for the GT3 was the front axle lift. I got so tired of scraping the GTS nose

The GTS was one of the best cars i ever owned and a completely different beast then the GT3

I went with the 2017 GTS and absolutely love it. I drove a 2015 Turbo S and a 2015 GT3. I feel the GTS was the better car. Felt light but rides nice and with a turn of the **** (sport Crono) or push of a button I have lower ride and firm suspension. What I didn't like about the GT3 is the rough constant ride and the noise, the engine also likes to be on the pipe vs. the GTS has the turbos that work great down lo. What I didn't like about the Turbo S was the heavier car feel. Power was awesome but honestly a little much.

Beware of GT3 castastrophic engine failures which are pretty common. I believe Porsche extended the warranty on that for 5 years 120K miles..

If you don't mind the mileage and rougher ride definitely go with the GT3.

If you want nice torque and nice big power gains off of simple mods get the GTS. It will be faster.

Back on topic, as someone looking at used 991 GTS the options that matter to me are:

1) SPASM. In Canada you must configure with RWS, so its both together. The 20mm lowering will ensure I am not tempted to go aftermarket..
2) GTS Interior package. Dont know about US config but in Canada you need to check two 5k boxes for this so its a 10k option. Completes the GTS look on the inside to match the distinct GTS look on the outisde. Will not buy without. Happy to have original owner take the hit, MSRP it ridiculous on this option.

I configured my Macan GTS the same way, though in GTS form comes with alot more than on the 911 GTS so less boxes to tick.

Not sure how a Macan relates to a Porsche sports car at any level - radically different price points and radically different levels of performance - no point trying to conflate the two.
