991.1 - PDK buttons vs Paddles ????

Here is a great option. You can add them to your existing wheel as well with Techart paddles, which actually is also the only way as far as I know to do this if you have multifunction wheel. Adding the paddles (one way or the other) is in my mind an absolute must and will transform the driving experience.

I looked at the techart paddles and for the cost it didn't seem worth it to me. I went with the 991.1 to 991.2 steering wheel update and have no complaints. Very simple to DIY. Here is the thread:

Multifunction wheel has buttons plus stereo and MFD controls.
Sport design has paddles but no controls. MFD is controlled on stalk
Base wheel has buttons and no stereo controls and is a sad thing indeed.

The MFD steering wheel “was” the only steering wheel that could be had with the “heated” option. The 991.2 changed that. So the techart will allow paddles and heat if your current mfd has heat! FYI.

As a big paddle user/addict, I’ve gotten used to the buttons quickly. They give me about 80% of the satisfaction that paddles do, and dare I say more usage versatility (one handed shifting comes in handy from time to time). Of course, a loud exhaust makes everything feel more visceral, so that’s a big reason as to why it feels “fine enough” to me. Though, of course I’d rather have paddles. And the buttons have gotten me using the shifter itself more, which lends a sort of cool “mock manual” sensation.
I agree though, in that the button steering wheel without MFD controls is a very sad thing. I’d also like a slightly thicker rim, but even after driving this Cayenne loaner, which houses the new wheel that I was used to on my Macan, I don’t mind the old MFD wheel so much anymore. If looking for positives; I like that it’s all black (no annoying plastic silver and the glare that often comes with it) and the plastics and buttons on it are of higher quality than the new standard wheel.

The buttons on the .1 MF wheel ruined the experience for me. Plus the PDK paddles on the .2 wheels are far superior from a functional standpoint to the previous paddles I had on a PDK Cayman R IMHO. Add to that the better looks it was a no brainer for me to upgrade in spite of the cost.
