Good point -- you shouldn't use a plain old hockey puck as a jack pad if there is a possibility that the car could shift or roll off the jack, stand or lift. And even then, you have to take care that the puck is properly centered on top of the jack and under the car's lift point. I used hockey pucks for many years on my Corvette without any problem, by being careful.

On the other hand, I've seen some "locking" lift pucks (mostly home made) that wouldn't hold up if the car or jack shifted position. The lock part would have sheared off the puck part. Be careful.

I dont like the stud pads, its too hard to line them up to get the jack under them. Ive got 1 in my box, and it never leaves. I leave the pucks on my jacks and use them on all my cars, it the easiest

For most excellent clearance under the jacking points, I ordered an AC DK20Q.




That's about 2.5 inches with just the saddle, and 1.5 inches with my 991 pad.
