Cities are expensive place to live. People also complain about the high cost of rent, real estate prices. cost of living, insurance, parking etc. Goes with the territory. Boston is the same. Try finding a small decent house in Cambridge or Boston.
Don't like it, live in the rural midwest.

i'm not complaining per se, just pointing out that it's pretty expensive to do service in NYC. and also, as you know, moving to the midwest is a nice concept but if the work is in NYC there's nothing you can do about it.

also Boston is not a city at all. it's a big town, a dirty big town.

don't @ me

I paid $250-$300 for an oil change at Emil's All Tire on Great Neck Road in Brooklyn and that included a replaced Cabin filter, and checked other fluids.
Not sure where you are located, but I think it would be worth your time to go to this shop (or others that are recommended above).

To put something else into perspective - my mother has a Range Rover Supercharged LWB purchased from Ray Catena Edison NJ. We couldn't bare the thought of drilling the plate into the front bumper. We inquired about putting the retractable plate (with remote control) and was quoted a little over $1000 for parts and labor. Emil did the same exact job with the exact same parts in the exact same time - for $180.

So, it's not just a Manhattan Issue. I think it's what everyone is saying above - a dealer convenience fee. Drop off the car- sit in a lovely setting - and have some eye (and tummy) candy while you wait.

For warranty issues, sure I'll go. Maintenance, I don't know why folks still go to the dealer - especially with great forums like this to turn to for alternative advice.

Just had my 4 year completed at 12,500 miles on my 991.1 for $1625, tax included, at Porsche Birmingham without wipers or cabin air filter.

Heck, they just charged me $465 labor to swap out the dunlop sport race tires to Michelin 4S on my GT3 before I took delivery! I was shocked! I figured 250 at most.

And it should not be! That's why I drove over to Birmingham. Call Tracy and tell him I told you to. He is excellent.

Discount Tire will charge 18 bucks or less for each dismount and mount... That's for my centerlock wheels too.

Your price is absolute robbery.

Discount also stands by their work like no other tire shop I've seen.

I agree. But, I don't trust anyone to take off and reinstall my wheels, especially with PCCBs, and this was pre delivery. I was kind of hoping they would just throw it in. When I had a lowly 350Z, I used to swap the custom rims for stock before even taking it in for service so they didn't mess them up. Today I bought the required torque wrench.
