iPhone Mount & Apple Car Play
If you own a 991.2, you know what a pain it is to connect your iPhone to the USB port located inside center console for Car Play and wonder where to rest the phone for accessing Waze or forget to take the phone with you after you reach your destination if you store the phone inside the console. I bought a Rennline magnetic mount kit, fabricated a custom powder coated bracket per valvefloat991 CAD drawing and snaked a black Amazon basics iPhone cable from center console USB port to magnetic mount concealed within side cover. Check out the pictures.

I too wanted the smallest profile. Also, two reasons I mounted it next to PCM; 1) manual transmission, 2) ability to glance at Waze more easily.

If you use the bracket that comes with the kit, your magnetic mount will be slightly on top of your PCM, obstructing PCM view partially. valvefloat991's design will put your magnetic mount to the right of the PCM screen and at a slightly higher point. The phone mounts parallel to the PCM screen and does not obstruct screen view one bit. It makes a real difference in my opinion. He has made a nice post to show the difference.

Why over complicate things? No need to take off trim or unscrew things, plus who wants to stick the metal part on your phone? The t-design works great.

I use the new vent-mounted Kenu airframe pro and it works fine to mount an iphone 7 plus with the otter box. Tried to use the T design holder from my 981 Boxster in my 911 but it was too loose.

Don't forget that any metal plate you attach to the back of your phone will screw up wireless charging.

Although I have the Kenu Airframe, I find I use it less and less for my daily commute. I just leave the iPhone in my shirt pocket. I like the way the phone connects automatically via bluetooth and starts to play music from my Spotify playlist without me having to touch the phone or the 991.2's audio system. No fuss, no bother. Perfect.

No no, I mean attaching a ferrous plate on the back of the phone, over the receiving coil, will disrupt the coupling between the transmitting coil of the charger and the receiving coil in the phone. Four generations of Samsung Galaxy phones and now the iPhone have glass backs to allow wireless charging.
