Agreed. Works with the car locked or unlocked. The only trick I've found is that waving my hand doesn't always work, but hovering it a second or two about an inch away always does the trick. A touch isn't necessary.

OP, I've never seen that happen... hopefully it was a one-off thing related to the detailing and won't happen again. I wonder if they used a buffer and caused a problem with static buildup somehow?

Sidvicious7 Thanks for posting the Diagram. The proximity sensor is item # 24.

The behavior of mine has changed so I am going to wait and see what develops.

Clearly the best location to touch is just below the lid edge and the center of the car.

That is the proximity sensor for the luggage compartment lid opener.

I think the flow of water increases the signal strength from your body to the car. Well I am sure.

FWIW mine senses best just below the lid edge offset a few inches towards the passenger side.

This is an inconvenience and more than likely will need a replacement proximity sensor or whatever it is called.

My concern is what does it take to get to it. If it means taking the bumper etc. off I will probably pass and leave it as is.

What I hate about newer cars is lack of availability of workshop manuals to the consumer.
If you do have to take off the bumper, I would give it zero second thought. The bumpers in these cars come off for routine maintenance (need to remove rear just to change air filters!) and go back on with no issues.

Nothing to do with signal strength from your body to the car. What it is doing is fooling the sensor into thinking your hand is on it.

sounds like that may be the sensor and it must be under the hood, at the finger latch. This is different technology than the motion sensor in MB. As with previous porsche most of their alarm, entry systems, etc are very tempermental. Dont know if it would make any difference but you may try shielding it with some foil and see what effect it has

Needsdecaf, it is not a pressure switch so what else would trigger it to open when water is directed at the location?

The key or the key fob generates radio waves as far as I know. The battery in them gets weak and the range decreases.
