Thats why im picking up the car with the stickers on it. Gonna drive to the installer in the right lane driving like a grandma.
Doesnt the dealer usually farm out the ppf to an independent installer? I would imagine they need to drive it somewhere too
Yes and 99% of the time its the one that quotes the cheapest price and they can make the highest margin on. Also not all dealers in the same group are equal.... Foreign cars Italia Charlotte uses a drive through wash down the street with spinning cat 9 tails and has the worst results on wraps and PPF. Foreign cars Italia Greensboro (AKA Porsche Greensboro) has a great guy that I'd recommend.
Paint Protection Film (Clear Bra) installation is a craft, and the ones charging the most is typically the ones with the most experience....and vice versa. When looking into clear bra options, the best thing to do is to:
1) Look for references online
2) Do some research and make sure the Company's claimed experience is truly what it is. (We just had a customer come to us for a redo after the previous installer botched the installation. The company had claimed 10+ years of experience, but the client found out that it was 10+ years experience as a "Detailer" and 1 year as a PPF installer. Many companies are using deceiving marketing tactics like this.
3) and MOST IMPORTANTLY, go see the work in person. You will find many recommendations of different companies on the forums....but keep in mind that we all have different standards. Your level of standards may not match that of the next guy. By being able to see the installer(s) work in person, it will give you a good gauge of whether their installation know-how and standards will meet yours. Look for edge wraps, installation flaws, uneven seams, orange peel texture, pre-cut vs. custom installation, ect... These are all factors that determine whether the installation is at or above industry standards, but more importantly, does it match your standards.
We've been in the PPF and Window Tint industry for over 20 years, so we have seen it all. Let us know if you have any questions that we may be able to help you with, or if we can help you locate a Quality installer in your area.

In Tallahassee I used the shop that does all the porsche dealer work in Jax, just call them and ask who they use. I got the same as below plus the roof for $1600. I think you for sure want to get the rocker panels and the part behind the door done. The car comes with film for behind the door but it is not large enough and does not run down rockers. Having done this I am going to get the doors and handles done as well. My installer used Suntek on the hood and roof and expel on the front bumper. Expel has 2 different thicknesses and had it to do over I would pick the 10 mil on the bumper vs the 8 mil.

I ended up getting full PPF and that covered everything that wasn't glass after negotiating a deal on that. Here's a photo I took of the display in their store as a reference for what I might get if I went with the track package. Their workmanship was outstanding so this wasn't a discount shop. I seems that pricing varies quite a bit based on where you live from my observations.
curious where in Detroit? I’m picking up my gts from Ann Arbor and quoted 2200 for full front by the most reputable shop in Detroit area (clear auto bra). Seemed expensive given the best shop in St. Louis is charging 1300 for same job and same material.
I bought my car from Porsche of Ann Arbor as well. Don't remember what they quoted me, but I took it Larry at Clear Auto Bra and paid $1900 (I checked my records and was mistaken about the $1700 I first quoted) in August 2016. Based on word of mouth, his shop seems to be the best in the Detroit area. He did everything forward of the doors and the mirrors. I didn't do the headlights because of the rumored problems with the headlight coatings. I was very satisfied with Larry's work and after a year and half and 9000 miles, the PPF is holding up well.
