I assume that it is unusual for ships headed to Davisville to be routed south of Long Island and then through Hell Gate into the Long Island Sound but is it?

Does anyone who tracked the delivery of their cars from Germany to the East Coast recall that their ship took this route?

Mine did not but when it got close to port it parked and sat there for about 36 hours before it moved in so it could have done that route and still arrived at the same time.

I don't believe that I have ever seen a ship as large (and deep) as the Athens HIghway in the East River so, perhaps, it is an error.

New ETA. Substantial delay. Athens Highway's ETA is now 10:00 PM (local time) on March 31.

What could have occasioned this day-and-a-half delay?

And, yes, MarineTraffic.com still shows her following the weird course going through the Narrows to the East River and Hell Gate to the L.I. Sound.

My car is on the Taurus Leader which is owned by NYK Lines (Athens Highway is not). By going to their web site I was able to get a copy of their schedule for the boat, which appears to be updated regularly. See the attachment. This combined with marinetraffic.com paints a pretty good picture of when our ship comes in.

Taurus Leader's schedule has slipped - as of 3/26 showing ETA San Diego as 4/10. Rats!

I saw the new position for the Athens Highway this morning. The weird transit through the East River is still there.

Mine is still in Emden... 2 ships have sailed since arriving there. Hopefully it will make it to the Viking Queen on the 27th. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I noticed that. Apparently the storm that went through New England last weekend had them anchored offshore and slowed them down by a couple of days. Hopeful that they can make some of the time up once they leave Charleston.

Woohoo!!!

Just heard from my SA that my Carrera T made it onboard the Goodwood and its on its way to Houston.

I had misread the VW shipping schedule and thought the first column was the sailing date, when it actually is the ready-for-loading date. So, I thought it had departed when it wasn't even finished loading.

It is funny that 2 years ago my Macan GTS also came onboard the Goodwood. What a coincidence.

So, now it is crossing the English Channel on its way here. If everything goes as planned, I will be posting pic of the delivery on April 16th, almost a month ahead of the original schedule!!!

How close to shore must a ship be to be tracked by marinetraffic.com?

I don't know but I have a feeling we should be able to see it sometime tomorrow.
